Embassy of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates
Statement on the Attack on the UAE Embassy in Khartoum
Switzerland strongly condemns the attack on the residence of the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Khartoum. The inviolability of diplomatic premises, such as embassies and residences, is a fundamental principle of international law. These principles are enshrined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
Article 22 of the Vienna Convention states that the premises of a diplomatic mission are inviolable. Host states are obliged to protect these premises from any breach or disturbance and ensure the security of diplomatic missions. They must take all necessary measures to safeguard these locations from attacks or unauthorized intrusion.
As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.
