New Swiss Cooperation Strategy 2018-2021
The overall goal of the Swiss cooperation strategy Albania 2018-2021 is to contribute to a functioning democracy, improved public services and to an inclusive, competitive market economy in support of Albania’s European integration.
Development work in Albania focuses on four domains and uses a programmatic approach. A new cooperation strategy was launched in March 2018 and will guide efforts until the end of 2021. It builds on past interventions, a wide recognition of Swiss cooperation’s results and a reputation as trusted international partner.
The Swiss cooperation relies on partnerships with a diversity of actors such as civil society, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and bilateral and multilateral development partners. The cooperation is result-oriented and fosters Albania’s development with a long-term vision.
Albania is one of the five priority countries for Switzerland in the Western Balkans together with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia.
The four domains of the Swiss Cooperation Strategy 2018-2021 are:
Democratic Governance (formerly “Democratization, Decentralization and Local Governance”)
Economic Development and Employment (formerly “Economic Development”)
Urban Infrastructure and Energy
Gender and Governance are transversal themes for all programmes and projects.
