The Regional Statistical Yearbook 2022 was presented today by Albania’s Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) at a launching event that included representatives from local and central government and from the Embassy of Switzerland. It contains key demographic, social and economic data for the country’s prefectures and municipalities.

“Through this publication, valuable statistical information is provided, which serves for decision-making based on numbers, for getting to know every district and municipality through figures, for comparing and analysing economic, social and environmental indicators between Qarks (prefectures) and municipalities and for helping them know aspects of society that cannot be made visible except through statistics”, said INSTAT Director Elsa Dhuli.

“We are glad to see that this year important statistical information has been added: including more indicators at regional level and at municipal level. These additional indicators allow for better capturing how local policies are influencing the life of communities and citizens”, said Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber.

This publication is essential for improving regional and local development. It has a wide range of users: decision-makers, central and local government, businesses and investors, researchers and academia, civil society and media. It contains important data on main themes including health, education, social protection, agriculture, tourism, public finances, and population.

INSTAT experts have received support from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) through the SALSTAT project - ‘Strong Albanian Local Statistics’.

Reliable data at regional and local level contributes to Albania’s path to reach international standards. It allows for a better alignment with the global development agenda and provides information on the progress made to implement the SDGs. Statistics is also one of the chapters under negotiation as part of Albania’s EU accession process.
