Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber welcomed guests for the celebration of the Swiss National Day, a few days prior to its official date of August 1st.

Representatives from the diplomatic community, national and local government, as well as civil society and media joined the reception at the Swiss Residence. This year the event included a performance on alphorn – a traditional Swiss instrument, tasting of raclette and Swiss desserts provided by the Tirana School of Hospitality and Tourism, supported by the Lausanne School of Hospitality EHL.

Ambassador Huber emphasized the excellent bilateral relations between Switzerland and Albania which this year marks 55 years.

“Switzerland has been and will remain a steadfast partner to Albania’s development journey. Although funding by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC will phase out in a few years, the Swiss cooperation programme, with funding by SECO, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, will continue in the area of economic development”, said Ambassador Huber.

“These activities aim at promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth, contributing to more and better jobs and a prosperous society. The supported areas include the promotion of reliable public finances and stable financial markets to enhance resilience and increase economic confidence”, continued Ambassador Huber.

During the past year the Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter as well as former Swiss President Alain Berset have visited Albania on the occasion of the Summit of the European Policial Community and other functions. “We hope to build on these strong links with further bilateral visits”, said Ambassador Huber.

Switzerland celebrates its national day on August 1st, a date marking the pact of Rütli in August 1291 when three Swiss cantons first created what would later become the Swiss Confederation.
