Youth employability campaign “I want”

150 students from Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka and Tuzla attended the launching of the promotional campaign of youth employability “I want” at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo. Under the auspice of the Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina and with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina the Youth Information Agency will implement this campaign by using new communication tools to reach the youth.

During the next 40 weeks, the Youth Information Agency (OIA) through its Social innovations incubator “Munja” (Lightening) will conduct a campaign for the promotion of youth employability in BiH. The main goal is to raise the awareness of young people on the importance of their active participation in the labour market and the use of opportunities for additional vocational education and training. Namely, only strong and motivated youth can be active and successful in society.

Željko Rajić, deputy Director of the Agency for Work and Labour BiH, Samra Filipović-Hadžiabdić, Director of Gender Equality Agency at the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees BiH, David Kramer, deputy Director of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland in BiH, Nermin Kujović, Programme Officer at Friedrich Ebert Foundation, dr. Lejla Turčilo, Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences at University Sarajevo, and Jan Z. Kulenović, Director of OIA, together with students from bh. Universities supported the campaign’s launching today.

The main communication tool for the youth employability promotion will be a newly established info platform which consists of the web portal HOCU.ba (I want), social media and on-line newsletters for youth, NGO’s, teachers, public employment officers, municipality youth officers and parents. As integral part of this campaign OIA also announced 14 regional dialogues and 250 workshops by peer educators in schools across the state.

UN statistics show that 63% of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina are unemployed. Moreover, they are inactive on the labour market and only 25% have experience with non-formal education and skills development trainings. Research also shows that only 10% of youth in BiH have volunteering experience and only 7% are members of some youth organisation.
