Dr. Barbara Beckett, Professor of Conservation and Restoration of Architecture and Furnishing at the University of Applied Sciences, Bern, Switzerland, will be in conversation with Mr Vikas Dilawari of Vikas Dilawari Architects. Dr. Barbara Beckett
Holding a Diploma in Conservation of Wallpaintings and Architectural Surfaces, from the University of Hildesheim, Germany, Postgraduate Certificate and PHD in Heritage Conservation from the University of Bamberg, Germany, Dr. Beckett has a wide range of experience in Heritage Conservation. Her range of expertise includes fieldwork within European and International teams, planning, implementation and coordination of research projects to teaching undergraduate, postgraduate conservation students in theory and practice. She has worked on many interesting and challenging national and international cultural heritage sites and cross disciplinary projects including a Roman cubiculum in Pompeii, wall paintings in temples in Taiwan and in the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, China and as the Conservation Expert for the EU funded "Zanzibar Built Heritage Job creation Project" ZANHER in the World Heritage Site of Stone Town, Zanzibar. She was also employed as a guest professor at Tainan National University of the Arts, Taiwan for over 3 years, establishing the inaugural Master course for wall paintings conservation. Since September 2017 she has been working at the University of Applied Sciences, Bern on the course for Conservation Restoration of Architecture and Furnishing.
Mr. Vikas Dilawari
Vikas Dilawari is a practicing conservation architect with more than two and half decades of experience exclusively in the conservation field, ranging from urban to architecture. He has done his double Masters in Conservation from School of Planning and Architecture (New Delhi) and from the University of York. He was the Head of Department of Conservation Department at Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture, Mumbai, from its inception in 2007 till Aug 2014.
His practice has successfully executed several conservation projects ranging from prime landmarks to unloved buildings of Mumbai. Several of his projects have received national recognition. A total of twelve of his projects have won the UNESCO ASIA PACIFIC Awards for Cultural Preservation in SE Asia. Architect Dilawari has lectured and written extensively on the subject of conservation nationally and internationally.
