Title of the film: The Dispossessed (LES DÉPOSSÉDÉS) by Mathieu Roy

Documentary, 180 min, Canada / Switzerland, October 2017

A stimulating and critical documentary film dedicated to the global exigency of farmers, produced by Mira Films, Switzerland. The Dispossessed draws attention to a humanitarian catastrophe that affects about half of the world's population, but hardly penetrates our consciousness: the situation of farmers who produce food but usually do not have enough to feed themselves or - as often in these countries - fall into a debt trap that threatens their very existence. The film examines the causes of this misery and shows connections that refer to our economic system, but also to Switzerland as the seat of important agrochemical companies and hub of the food trade.

About Dharamshala Film Festival:
When filmmakers and longtime Dharamshala residents Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam started the Dharamshala International Film Festival in 2012, their main aim was to give the local community a platform for good alternative cinema. Five years later, DIFF has become one of India’s leading independent film festivals and draws audiences from across the world.

For one long weekend each year DIFF brings the world to Dharamshala. Momos in one hand, cappuccinos in the other, film lovers find their way to screenings, Q&A’s with filmmakers, panel discussions and masterclasses. All of the town’s diverse communities come together to make the festival a success.

DIFF is a festival for everybody: filmmakers and volunteers, grown-ups and children, travellers from afar and the local community.

Entry free. For more information on screening schedule contact: www.diff.co.in
