28.02.2026 – Developments in the region

The Swiss Embassy in Iran is closely monitoring the military escalation in the region.

For Swiss nationals: Please refer to the travel advice of the FDFA and keep yourself informed about the current situation. Travel to Iran is advised against.

The FDFA does not organize departures for Swiss nationals. Swiss citizens who decide to remain in the country or to travel to Iran despite the FDFA’s recommendations must be aware that, in the event of a deterioration in the security situation, Switzerland would only be able to provide limited services, if any, and would have only limited capacity to provide assistance in an emergency. The decision to leave Iran is taken under the individual’s own responsibility and at their own expense (Art. 48 CSPA).

The Swiss Embassy in Iran is currently operational and providing limited consular services. Due to telecommunications restrictions, it can only be reached by telephone (+98 992 737 2790) and email to a limited extent. All appointments with VFS and the embassy are canceled without replacement. Swiss citizens should weigh the risks before traveling to the embassy.

It is currently not possible to apply for a visa for Switzerland and/or the Schengen area in Tehran. The current entry requirements for the Schengen area and Switzerland remain valid in all cases.

Please refer to our FAQs on consular services and visas (PDF, 2 Seiten, 160.5 kB, Englisch).

In case of emergency, you can contact the FDFA Helpline (24/7): phone +41 800 24 7 365 or +41 58 465 33 33..
