Combating corruption in Kosovo

Corruption is rampant among Kosovo’s public institutions and undermines citizens’ trust in the system. The SDC is supporting a project designed to address this problem by promoting transparency in institutions and encouraging citizens to report abuses.

SDC supports municipal autonomy and political participation in Kosovo

Since independence in 2008, Kosovo has been moving to reform and decentralise its administration. Local self-administration in the 38 municipalities is to be expanded. The SDC project "Decentralisation and Municipal Support" (DEMOS) supports 17 municipalities in improving their public services.

The standard of healthcare provision in Kosovo is inadequate and does not meet the needs of the general population. Vulnerable groups are particularly affected, with a number of economic and social barriers limiting their access to care. That is why the SDC is working to improve the quality and inclusivity of the primary healthcare system in Kosovo.

Kosovo suffers under a high rate of youth unemployment. One reason for this is the lack of international competitiveness in the private sector. The 'Promoting Private Sector Employment' (PPSE) project supports companies in the food and tourism industries and helps to create new jobs.

Working to reduce the risk of natural disasters is a fundamental element of improving the security of local populations. Switzerland has placed this objective on the agenda for its chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2014. High-level conferences and practical training are planned.

Notaries relieve courts

In the former Yugoslavia notaries did not exist. Their tasks were carried out by district courts, and that is still the case today. The district courts are chronically overloaded and are unable to fulfil their responsibilities satisfactorily. The project is supporting the government of Kosovo with the introduction of a notarial system and thereby contributing to the development of the rule of law in the country.

Enhancing Youth Employability (EYE) – 27,000 New Jobs for Young Men and Women in Kosovo

In order to improve the market opportunities for young Kosovar women and men, the EYE program facilitates a matching of demand and supply sides of the labour market. Adequate training and education is available to meet the requirements of the private sector. The job seekers are enabled to access vacant positions and make informed decisions about their career paths. Furthermore, the EYE project promotes focused private sector investments in relevant subsectors that lead to growth of employment opportunities for young people. The approach taken by the project aims to bring about systemic change in matching demand and supply leading to large-scale and sustainable impact on the target group.

Promoting Private Sector Employment in Kosovo (PPSE)

The “Promoting Private Sector Employment“- PPSE program will support SMEs to become more competitive by improving their offer and efficiency in order to create gainful and inclusive employment for young people, women and minorities in dynamic SMEs that operate in the sectors with growth potential, namely Food Processing and Tourism. lt is expected that by end of 2021, 2000 additional Full Time Jobs will be created and CHF 3.8 Mio additional net income will be generated by the project partner SMEs.


Social inclusion and improvement of living conditions for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians and other vulnerable groups in Kosovo

In order to improve the social inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians (RAE) in Kosovo, the single phase project will develop their livelihoods through ensuring better access to educational opportunities, enhanced children rights and protection, upgraded housing conditions and more income generation prospects. The project will complement these grassroots activities with policy interventions, in the education and child protection components, to ensure ownership and sustainability through institutionalization.

Solidar Suisse oriente son programme de développement sur les besoins et les droits des personnes vulnérables et défavorisées dans les pays les plus pauvres et dans les pays émergents et en transition où les inégalités sont profondes. Solidar Suisse développe des programmes qui renforcent les mouvements sociaux et promeuvent l’intégration active de la société civile dans les processus politiques. Le « travail décent » est devenu l’élément phare de Solidar Suisse qui a développé une véritable expertise dans cette thématique.


Schweizerisches Rotes Kreuz (SRK) / Swiss Red Cross (SRC) (Kredit Ost)

The SRC’s overall goal is to contribute to healthy and safe living for vulnerable groups and communities. Since access to quality health care services remains a key factor for good health, the SRC promotes both supply and demand side of local health systems. As healthy living also depends on the environment, SRC focuses on health determinants such as water, sanitation, nutrition and health literacy. Adressing risks and disasters, SRC programmes encompass disaster risk reduction measures and foster community resilience.


Brot für alle / Pain pour le prochain (Kredit Ost)

En tant qu’organisation de développement des églises protestantes suisses, Pain pour le Prochain a le mandat d’informer et de former, de s’engager dans la politique de développement et d’assurer la qualité. Pain pour le Prochain et les onze œuvres partenaires forment une communauté de coopération (KoGe)[1] qui est un réseau d’apprentissage avec des objectifs spécifiques. Ce réseau permet notamment de joindre le travail de politique de développement en Suisse et le travail au Sud. Son objectif commun est de contribuer à une transformation du système et des comportements économiques, sociaux, politiques et écologiques.
