Additional Allocation 2017 to ICRC Operation in Yemen in Response to the Hunger Emergency

Project completed

On 24 February 2017, SDC/HA pledged an additional allocation of CHF 15 million to support emergency relief operations to help populations facing starvation in parts of Africa (South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria) and Yemen. This decision followed a call issued by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 22 February 2017 urging for USD 4.4 billion aid to avert famine for 20 million people who risk starvation in these countries. CHF 1 million will be allocated to support ICRC's emergency operation in Yemen.

The project in brief
Background

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to ensure protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence.

The ICRC is Switzerland's main humanitarian partner in the field of international humanitarian aid.

 
Objectives Providing immediate protection and assistance for all people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. 
Target groups Victims of armed conflict ant other situations of violence. 
Medium-term outcomes The ICRC is committed to responding rapidly and efficiently to the humanitarian needs of people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence by protecting the lives and dignity of all victims. The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strenghtening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. 
Results

Expected results:   Protection and assistance is provided for all people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.
