Complementary livestock redistribution, production and animal health interventions support to improve pastoralists livelihood

Project completed

The project is trying to combine various approaches to have a major impact on the livelihoods of pastoralist communities in the greater Isiolo District. Re-distribution of small ruminants and camels will provide communities with a short term and long term solution providing milk to the selected households and improving their household food security on one hand and increased income through sales on the other hand. This is seen as an adaptive strategy to pastoralist communities as the impacts of climate change are expected to be generally detrimental for agriculture. Increasing frequencies of heat stress, drought and flooding events may have a negative effect on crop and livestock productivity.
