Contexte |
The Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership (GWSP) is a multi-donor trust fund administered by the World Bank and operates as a think tank generating high-quality analytical work to inform water sector programmes across five main thematic areas: sustainability, institutions, financing, inclusion, and resilience. |
Objectifs |
The overarching goal of the GWSP is to achieve a water-secure world for all, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The GWSP adopts a holistic approach, considering water supply and sanitation services, water resources management, and water in agriculture altogether. Three main instruments are used by the GWSP to operationalise its "knowledge-into-implementation" model: (i) global knowledge initiatives such as foundational analytics on water, climate and economy, the development of utility support tools, and online courses- (ii) long-term technical assistance to strengthen institutions and prepare reforms in partner countries- and, (iii) just-in-time technical assistance through short-term expert assignments. |

Résultats |
Principaux résultats attendus: Global knowledge initiatives and knowledge mobilisation: (i) plans, strategies, policy notes, handbooks, manuals and approaches drafted and disseminated- (ii) tools and monitoring systems developed or supported- (iii) global knowledge and advocacy campaigns delivered. Long-term country engagement: (i) water sector stakeholders engaged- (ii) water-related institutions supported- (iii) policy, strategies, regulatory frameworks developed or informed- (iv) proof-of-concept pilots undertaken. Just-in-time support: (i) capacity building and training delivered- (ii) policy or technical advice provided- (iii) diagnostics and analytics conducted- (iv) innovative approaches piloted. Principaux résultats antérieurs: Since its creation in 2017, the GWSP has been a major contributor to global water sector knowledge and analytics, with over 200 resources published to date and high-quality online training courses. In fiscal year 2022 only, the GWSP influenced an estimated US$ 13 billion investments from the World Bank's portfolio in the water sector and beyond. GWSP priority themes are almost systematically taken up in new water sector projects developed by the World Bank and substantial progress has been achieved across all water sector performance indicators, considering access to water and sanitation services, irrigation practices, and water resources management.
