UN Global Compact Core Contribution 2024-2025
The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest corporate responsibility initiative worldwide, and one of the most successful UN-Private Sector partnerships. Switzerland has been a major supporter of the UNGC from its inception in 2000 and, with this ninth phase core contribution, is supporting the implementation of the UNGC’s 2021-2025 strategy, with a focus on its activities in Africa.

- Develop “fit-for-scale” operating capabilities for HQ, Regional Hubs and Local Networks
- Advance digital capabilities through optimization of the CoP and internal data architecture and governance
- Recruit and retain talent to become more diverse.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that engages donors holistically in UNGC's priorities
- Retain and expand participation base across geographies
- Increase brand awareness through greater presence on top tier platforms
- Implement the programme portfolio roadmap, emphasizing prioritized issue areas and regionalization
- Strengthen and leverage partnerships across the UN towards advancing contribution to the UN's Summit of the Future and building greater government support for UNGC's mission
- Bolster enabling environments through policy advocacy and business leadership engagement
- Accelerate UNGC member accountability, ambition, and impact through investment in the CoP, Forward Faster and Key Account Management
- Launch 3 new Local Networks globally
- Delivery capacity building training series for Local Network staff
- Meet growth target of 23’000 total business participants by EOY2024 and ensure new joiners are representative of at least 60% small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and 38% developing countries
- Enhance UN and stakeholder engagement regionally through coordinated partnerships, events and advocacy.
- Successful implementation of CoP replatforming
- Enable platforms and processes for operational data capture, display and analysis
- Broaden and diversify the donor base and enhance programmatic engagement among existing and potential donors
- Implementation of regional programming priorities in collaboration with Local Networks across the region as reflected in the respective regional programme documents and reports
- Strong, multi-dimensional growth: Increased the participant base of the UN Global Compact to over 21,000 companies, alongside significant growth in local coverage to over 100 countries (41% developing counries);
- 99’000 e-learning users across 180 countries participated in UNGC Academy courses.
- Increased reach & visibility across UN system and public arenas: Local Networks organized almost 2300 events, with participants of approx. 30’0’00 companies.
- Strengthened the global positioning and external voice: Elevated positioning within the UN system to the level of Assistant Secretary-General and engagement with RC, UNCT and UN Agencies in 25 countries.

- SDC thematic section E+E, which is member of the Swiss Local Network of the UNGC
- SECO and AFM: The UNGC is an important instrument or advancing the Federal Council’s policy on responsible business conduct.
- MiNY: As the co-chair of the cross-regional Group of Friends, the MiNY plays an important role in enabling dialogue between the UNGC, UN Member States and the UN system as a whole.

Contesto | The UN Global Compact, as the largest corporate responsibility initiative in the world, is uniquely placed to galvanize the alignment of responsible business practices with the SDGs by calling on companies everywhere to align their strategies and operations with its Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption, as well as to report on the corresponding progress. With its corporate strategy (prolonged by two years until 2025), the UNGC intends, in this decade of action, to contribute to the collective impact of business to contribute to the SDGs. |

The overall goal of this ninth phase contribution is to support the implementation of the UNGC’s 2021-2025 Strategy with the overarching aim to: Accelerate and scale the global collective impact of business by upholding the Ten Principles and delivering the SDGs through ambitious, accountable companies and environments that enable change. |
