Financing of two Advisors at EDO World Bank

The governance reform at the World Bank (“Voice and Participation reform”) affects the distribution of votes between countries. More voting power has been given to emerging countries. As a consequence, Switzerland had to take measures to maintain its position and permanent seat at the WB. Kazakhstan was integrated in our constituency, and Switzerland agreed to offer two Advisor positions to this country to be equally and fairly represented in both the WB and IMF constituencies. This intervention financing the advisors’ position will allow maintaining the permanent seat of Switzerland and its important position at the WB, which is clearly in the interest of Switzerland.

The Swiss permanent seat within the IFIs’ executive bodies is maintained and possibly strengthened, so that Swiss interests will be continuously represented and promoted.

Outcome 1: maintain the Swiss seat at the WB through the acquisition of a new member in the Swiss led constituency, i.e. Kazakhstan.

Outcome 2: strengthen the Swiss position within the WB thanks to the work of the Executive Director’s Office.

Risultati fasi precedenti:  

The Swiss permanent seat within the IFI’s is still maintained. The advisors financed performed as expected.
