Financing of three Advisors at EDO World Bank
As leader of a nine country constituency in the Executive Board of the World Bank Group (WBG), Switzerland is able to wield a high level of influence in the governance and decision-making of the organization. This intervention will finance three non-Swiss advisors at the Swiss Executive Director’s Office (EDO) until the end of 2020 in order to maintain and strengthen the permanent seat of Switzerland in the WBG Board. The contribution is part of an ongoing financing arrangement with SECO, with each agency responsible for financing a two-year cycle.

Contesto | At the WBG, Switzerland represents a group of nine countries on the 25 seat Board of Directors, which is in charge of the oversight and policy decisions on WBG operations. The Swiss-led constituency employs Advisors who assist the Swiss Executive Director in his work, though not all Advisors are financed by the WBG. The EDO Advisors from the constituencies’ eastern European and central Asian countries acquire invaluable knowledge during their tenure at the EDO, which increases capacity in their home countries upon their return. Furthermore, the EDO profits from additional manpower in handling the business of the Board. This intervention financing three advisor positions helps to secure the permanent seat of Switzerland in the WBG Board, which is clearly in the interest of Switzerland. |
