Financing of World Bank EDO Advisors
Switzerland leads a constituency of nine countries in the Executive Board of the World Bank Group, giving it a high level of influence in governance and decision-making. To maintain and strengthen the permanent Board seat, Switzerland finances three non-Swiss advisors to the Swiss Executive Director’s Office. Based on a four-year co-financing arrangement between SDC and SECO, SDC assumes the cost for 2023-2024.

Contesto |
Switzerland represents a group of nine countries on the 25-seat Board of Directors of the World Bank Group (WBG), which is in charge of the oversight and policy decisions on WBG operations. The Swiss-led constituency employs Advisors who assist the Swiss Executive Director in his work. Not all these Advisors are financed by the WBG. This intervention finances three Advisor positions from the constituencies’ Central Asian countries. These Advisors acquire invaluable knowledge during their tenure at the Executive Director’s Office (EDO), which increases capacity in their home countries upon their return. The EDO benefits from additional manpower in managing Board business. The contribution helps to secure the permanent seat of Switzerland in the WBG Board, a clear Swiss interest. |
