UNDP: Support for Electoral Process in Tunisia (Ballot Boxes)
In the context of UNDP's project "Support for Electoral Process in Tunisia" over the period 15 April 2011 to 14 April 2012, SDC will make a contribution towards the shorter-term component "ballot boxes". The "Instance Superieure Independante pour les Elections" has made a specific request to UNDP to ensure the provision of 10'000 transparent ballot boxes that meet international standards. After investigating the possibility to produce and procure locally, it was decided to use the established UNDP procurement model and existing agreements with international companies for electoral material, in order to meet the deadline of the 23 October 2011 elections. Given lack of trust in government authorities based on the legacy of the previous regime, the building up of an independent, professional and autonomous electoral administration in Tunisia and the delivery of fair, transparent and free elections are critical. Transparent ballot boxes that meet international standards are one relevant element in this endeavour.
