Zürcher Theater Spektakel – phasing out 2024 - 2025
The largest theatre festival of Switzerland, the Zürcher Theater Spektakel (ZTS) integrates the works of performers and theatre directors from the Southern and Eastern developing countries (S/E) into its yearly programmes, competitions and networks. SDC’s contribution allows specific efforts regarding research, pre-production works or co-productions and translations to make sure the artists get visibility, skills, networks, to benefit the cultural scene of their countries of origin.

Contesto | Culture is a human right and an important means of expression in society with a potential of reflection, interaction and social change. Therefore, a vivid free culture scene is an important element for a society with freedom of expression as part of democracy/democratic participation. This is particularly relevant in view of increasingly repressive/authoritarian governments worldwide, where free civic space is shrinking. Theatre takes up themes that touch the public and trigger thinking. SDC supports art and culture as part of its development cooperation activities and as a contribution to the implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions 2005. |
Obiettivi |
Artists and theatre directors from Southern and Eastern developing countries get a better access to the Swiss culture market, international networks and to the Swiss and international audience. The local cultural sectors in S/E, whose framework conditions often make artists' work very difficult, are strengthened as the ZTS offers the artists opportunities for co-productions, to generate knowledge, experience, networks and visibillity to benefit their countries of origin. |
