Decentralization for Inclusive Development

Switzerland played an important role in mediating the Maputo Peace Accord, ending 20 years of conflict between the Frelimo government and Renamo. As part of the negotiations, the country’s constitution was amended, so that provincial governors (and later district governments) will be elected instead of appointed. The intervention supports the decentralization reform through enhancing the quality, sustainable financing and accountability of services for approximately 1 million people in Northern Mozambique.

Capacity Building for Low Carbon and Climate Resilient City Development in India (CapaCITIES)

India is rapidly urbanizing. The growing Indian cities are affected by climate change but are also important emitters of greenhouse gases. Phase 2 of CapaCITIES aims at enabling climate responsive urban planning in eight cities and two states. Swiss expertise in waste management, transport, water and climate finance will support development of solutions for low-carbon and climate resilient cities. The results of the project in India will be shared through global reporting mechanisms and city coalitions.

Decent Work for Migrants in the Middle East

This program contributes to decent work opportunities for migrants and refugees in the Middle East which is one of the largest migrant hosting regions globally due to economic demands and displacement from conflict. It complements the focus on Asian migrants with migrants from Africa and seek closer partnership with the private sector. Due to its relevant expertise and experience in decent work and fair recruitment, Switzerland is well placed to contribute to an improved protection and an enhanced wellbeing of migrant workers and self-reliance for refugees, to maximize the productive potential of migration, and to counter irregular and unsafe migration.

DEAR Foundation contribution Madaa

Switzerland, through Dear Foundation active in the oPt, will contribute to the provision of educational, cultural and psychosocial services for children, women and youth in the most sensitive neighbourhoods of East Jerusalem. A particular focus is given on reducing vulnerability and creating opportunities for jobs and income generation. Enhancing protection framework and strengthening the resilience of Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem are in line with Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the oPt (2015-2019).

Support to Village Councils in the West Bank

Switzerland will support Village Councils in the West Bank to improve the delivery of basic services in rural areas with a focus on those situated in Area C. Switzerland’s support aims at empowering selected local government units to deliver needed public services, while supporting an enhanced engagement of women, youth and people with disabilities, to improve local accountability processes. This intervention will be realized through dedicated funding to a local governance programme implemented by GIZ.

FarhangSara - Promotion of Cultural and Artistic Expressions

The project fosters peaceful interactions within a divided Afghan society marked by decades of conflict. The unifying potential of cultural heritage and the promotion of artistic expression contribute to refocus on common ground. To ensure the protection and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the project supports conducive cultural policies, strengthens partnerships with public institutions, private sector, civil society, media and individual artists all over the country.

Più trasparenza e meno corruzione grazie all’e-governance in Ucraina

EGAP Programme through modern e-governance and e-democracy tools contributes to a more effective and integrity-based public administration and service delivery, benefitting both citizens and businesses, to higher transparency and accountability of national and local authorities towards citizens, and to the formation of a new political culture characterized by citizens’ responsibility, competence and activism.

LëvizAlbania

Albania is at a critical juncture in its democratisation process and low level of civic engagement in the society does not aid. Challenging the status quo, LëvizAlbania empowers actors in the civic space (citizens, interest groups, CSOs, media etc.) to be drivers of change and pressure the government to take action benefiting the Albanian citizens. It complements SDCs extensive past and present work of institutional transformations of local level government.

Accountability in Health & Agriculture

While governments have translated regional policies on Food Security and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) into national policies, these are poorly implemented and the public lacks capacities to act effectively upon them. The project will improve the accountability and gender responsiveness of public resource management and complement the ongoing Swiss funded projects in ensuring that policy/advocacy work developed at national, regional and global levels is disseminated and implemented by relevant SADC and governmental institutions.

Global Malaria Technical & Training Support Package (GlobMal)

The worldwide reduction in malaria-related death in the last two decades is a major global public health success. Despite the 6 million lives saved from malaria, still more than 400’000 people die every year. The project aims to shape effective global and national malaria control and elimination strategies, by providing the necessary scientific evidence and strengthening capacities of malaria-affected countries. Swiss research and private sector contribute to the design and implementation of these global and national malaria strategies.

Soutien au développement des filière arachide, karité et sésame au Tschad (SODEFIKA)

Le programme vise le développement des filières arachide, karité et sésame en matière de production, transformation et commercialisation en vue d’accroitre le revenu de 658'000 personnes dont 337'920 femmes dans trois provinces au sud du Tchad. La DDC contribue ainsi à la réduction de la vulnérabilité des exploitations familiales et des inégalités entre hommes et femmes, ainsi qu’à la prévention de la migration.

SMArt – Sustainable Mountain Art

SDC’s Global Programmes focus on key challenges such as climate change and environment, water, migration, health, agriculture and food security. Changes in behaviour and consumption require empathy. Art is a complementary pathway helping to create awareness, stimulate necessary debate and generate action. By engaging artists with society at large, with a particular focus on mountains as entry point and on youth as important actor group, the implementation of Agenda 2030 can be enhanced.
