ACTED, South Sudan: Improving food security in Akobo Counties, Jonglei State

Akobo County hosts a growing number of IDPs, 45,000 as of June, 2015. Being an opposition SPLA stronghold and cut off from government services, the populations in Akobo (hosts & IDP’s) experience widespread food insecurity due to the depletion of household food stocks, limited functioning markets, high market prices, depleted livelihood options and diminishing purchasing power of most households. This project aims at contributing to the improvement of the resilience of affected populations through enhanced productivity and alternative livelihood options.

Asia and the Pacific is the world’s most disaster-prone region. National Governments in the region are increasingly eager to take the lead in emergency response to natural disasters. In support of this objective, WFP aims at building emergency logistics capacities in at-risk states, and to support national and regional entities in preparing to conduct humanitarian logistics operations in an efficient and coordinated manner. The SDC secondment to the WFP Regional Office in Bangkok will support the development and implementation of an emergency logistics training program for governments and other partners.

Water and Energy Security through Microhydels in the Hindukush, Pakistan (Phase 02)

The people of the Laspur and Yarkhun valleys of Chitral benefit from new development opportunities provided by an efficient use of clean hydro-power energy. The project will focus on the frame conditions and the factors which determine the efficiency and sustainability of the new installations and power utility companies and on the equitable use of the generated energy for inclusive social and commercial development.

Community driven and emergency WASH intervention for displacement-affected people in Iraq

There are currently 7.2 million people across Iraq in need of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assistance. Through this project, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) will provide a comprehensive WASH response to improve the public health of an estimated 25,200 conflict affected people in Iraq.

Citizen’s Action for Peace and Development (CAPD)

The Citizens Action for Peace and Development project will improve the living conditions for the people of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas through strengthening local conflict resolution processes, improving service delivery and strengthening civil society to advocate for reforms. The project will work with communities (right holders) to make them aware of their rights and enhance their dialogue with government officials to improve service delivery.

Economic Opportunities for Multiethnic Villages

Programme for Local Governance and Water & Sanitation in Mozambique (ProGoAS III)

The third and final phase of the programme aims at sustainably improving the living conditions of the rural population (581’000 persons) in four districts of Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces. The Exit strategy foresees that by the End of the programme participatory district planning and monitoring through government financed mechanisms responds to WatSan priorities of the population in the 4 districts and sustainable operation and maintenance of WatSan facilities is ensured by authorities, the private sector and communities.

Medical Education Reform in Tajikistan

Switzerland has been supporting Medical Education Reforms in Tajikistan since 2009 with the aim to ensure availability of appropriately trained, well-deployed and motivated workers in the health sector. With support of the project the standards of undergraduate education have been revised and learning environment along with the teaching process at medical schools have been significantly improved. The current phase of the project will target quality of postgraduate éducation and unite all levels of medical education in one global continuum.

Membership contribution to the Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment Network (MOPAN)

Since Switzerland annually spends approximately CHF 700 million in core contributions and multi-bi funding to multilateral organisations, it requires independent performance information on the beneficiary institutions in order to allow for an appropriate steering of its multilateral engagement. The Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment Network (MOPAN) is the only multilateral body offering this type of assessments. As most Swiss priority organisations are covered by MOPAN, the participation in MOPAN is highly relevant.

Une contribution suisse fournit des possibilités d’influence, de plaidoyer et de bras de levier.

Support for Victims of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) – Single Phase

Women and girls in Afghanistan who experienced gender based violence (GBV) are confronted with inadequate health services and insufficiently trained health staff to receive appropriate treatment and care. The project is designed to improve quality of care for women and girls affected by GBV by training health care staff in a trauma-sensitive approach (TSA). Results from monitoring and evaluation will be used for policy dialogue in the field of basic health, to document lessons learned and for advocacy.
