Municipal Development Programme Mozambique - PRODEM

In the framework of the ongoing decentralization process in Mozambique, 53 municipalities have been established since 1998. The programme aims to contribute to urban poverty reduction and a sustainable development of 26 municipalities. This shall be achieved through improvements in municipal government’s administration with a focus on service delivery and resilience to climate change impact complemented by enhanced citizen’s participation and social accountability.

The program of IAMANEH Switzerland addresses women and children in Western Africa and the Western Balkans in order to secure their access to quality primary health services, to grant safe motherhood and birth, to offer protection and safety from violence and health damaging practices and to allow informed choice with regard to family planning and prevention. Advocacy work contributes to the improvement of frame conditions for health and the securing of a sustainable health and social protection system in these regions.

Solidar Switzerland’s cooperation engagement contributes to poverty reduction and respect of human rights. In Etiopia, un decimo della popolazione è costituito da comunità di allevatori di bestiame nomadi, il cui accesso ai servizi sanitari è quasi inesistente. Nel quadro del progetto Jigjiga University One Health Inititiave la DSC sostiene il potenziamento dell'assistenza sanitaria locale mediante un centro di competenza interdisciplinare all'Università di Jigjiga, nell'Est del Paese.

The lack of physical access to economic opportunities, natural resources and social services is highly correlated with incidence of poverty. Devastations caused by natural disasters further exacerbate social and economic vulnerability of disadvantaged groups. Approximately 60’000 people will regain their safe ‘safe’ river crossings and their access to services through the rehabilitation and rebuilding of 21 strategic trail bridges damaged by the recent flash floods in August 2014 in 5 districts of Nepal.

The current Ebola outbreak across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has surpassed all other outbreaks in terms of cases, deaths and geographic spread. The Guinean Ministry of Health (MoH) requested partners to urgently provide protection equipment to its medical staff. The current Ebola outbreak has the potential to spread outside the affected countries and beyond the region if urgent and relevant containing measures are not put in place.

The significant size of the humanitarian aid community combined with the poor state of transport infrastructure as well as a precarious security situation demand a continuous and augmented humanitarian air transport capacity. WFP UNHAS is the only viable transport option available to the humanitarian community at large to accessing the needy persons and providing them with humanitarian assistance.
