Skills Development for Youth Employment – SKYE

The public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in Nigeria doesn’t offer its youth a formal qualification sufficient to prepare them for decent jobs in the private sector, resulting in high unemployment and lack of economic perspectives. By contributing to the SKYE project, Switzerland aims to improve the range of active labour market measures by building capacities within the institutions delivering job-matching services and vocational training, also in order to address root causes for migration.

Venezuela Humanitarian Fund (VHF) – Country-based Pooled Fund (CBPF)

The Venezuela Humanitarian Fund (VHF) is part of multilateral contributions for a Country based Pooled Fund (CBPF) that mobilizes and channels resources to humanitarian partners to respond to the humanitarian needs in Venezuela. The Fund operates within the parameters of the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), with the objective of expanding the delivery of humanitarian assistance by focusing on critical priorities and needs.

Colombia: MIRE+, Assistance to Victims of Violence

The humanitarian crisis in Colombia continues despite growing efforts towards peace. Armed groups fighting for territory and valuable natural resources inflict extreme harm on rural and ethnic communities. In line with the Swiss interest to respond to humanitarian crises, SDC remains dedicated to supporting these communities, enhancing their individual and collective resilience. The project integrates humanitarian action with a developmental and peace orientation (nexus).


Human Rights Grants (HRG) program in Tajikistan

The Human Rights grants program will support local and international organizations working in Tajikistan on acute Human Rights issues. The program will provide cofunding opportunities to selected projects related to child rights, freedom of press, human rights in custody, prevention of gender-based violence and the rights of migrants/refugees.


Contribution to UNESCO project: Empowering the government and citizens of Uzbekistan by strengthening access to information, accountability of institutions and media competence

01.10.2023 - 30.09.2026

The project will strengthen citizen’s access to information, accountability and transparency of governmental institutions and enhance the quality of the media and information landscape in Uzbekistan. UNESCO as implementing partner has a solid partnership with the government and supports ongoing legislative reforms with expertise, ensuring alignment with international standards, capacity building for key government stakeholders (incl. judiciary, law enforcement bodies) and media competence of professionals.

Contribution to OHCHR capacity strenght

01.10.2023 - 31.12.2025

The project aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights in Uzbekistan ensuring justice for victims of human rights abuses, enhancing civic space, integrating human rights principles into development and implementing UN Human Rights Mechanisms recommendation. Upon invitation by the President of Uzbekistan OHCHR has expanded its presence in the country.

Pediatric Heart Examination and Surgery

01.10.2023 - 31.05.2024

It is a humanitarian aid initiative with strong signs of regional solidarity and friendship between the countries. Heart examinations of children with heart defects in mainly North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Mongolia will be carried out. If necessary, children will undergo open heart surgery in Mongolia. The capacity building of cardiologists and local medical professionals is an integral part. 


Joint Programme Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JP DRR)

01.10.2023 - 30.11.2027

The authorities at all administrative levels will be supported to transform from reactive to proactive multi-sectoral disaster risk management and develop country-wide harmonized frameworks. Disaster risk reduction platforms will be set at all government levels to ensure better understanding of disaster risks and coordination of priority investments to increase resilience of vulnerable communities with a special focus on excluded population groups.

Contribution to the Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies 2023-2025

Faced with the under-prioritisation of education in emergencies (EiE), members of the Geneva Global Hub for EiE (EiE Hub) have successfully formed an alliance to increase the visibility, political commitment and funding for EiE. Switzerland’s continued strong engagement with the EiE Hub will contribute to expand its membership, implement its 2022-2025 strategy and become a consolidated and financially sustainable entity. Through the EiE Hub, Switzerland aims to reinforce its policy dialogue and leader position on EiE, and to position International Geneva as the global centre for EiE.

Colombia: UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Peacebuilding MPTF

01.10.2023 - 31.12.2024

Switzerland’s long standing support to peace efforts in Colombia serves its interests for international stability as well as human rights and is in line with Switzerland’s foreign policy interests as defined in the Federal Constitution. The contribution to the Multi-Partner Trust Fund, alongside other donors such as Norway and Germany, will support continuing implementation of the existing Peace Agreement and benefit vulnerable populations in former conflict regions. It will also underpin Switzerland’s current role in support of the government’s efforts for comprehensive peace in Colombia as well as its mandate as elected member of the Security Council.

Decent work for Migrants in the Middle East

Migrant workers and refugees face obstacles to access decent work in the Middle East, one of the largest migrant hosting regions, which limits their ability to contribute to their countries of origin and destination. To maximize benefits of migration and reduce harm, Switzerland engages various public and private stakeholders for the promotion of decent working conditions in Jordan, Lebanon and the Gulf, through access to justice, migrant empowerment and addressing worker welfare in the green and just transition.
