Contribution to the Resilience of Conflict-affected Population via the Livelihood Assistance in Ukraine (Phase I)

In complementarity to humanitarian, protection and economic development interventions, Switzerland supports socio-economic recovery activities in Ukraine, targeting war-affected displaced and unemployed men and women and preventing them from going into poverty via promoting the creation of durable economic solutions. This consecutive shift of international support from humanitarian to development space is expected to contribute to faster and more effective reconstruction of Ukraine.

Humanitarian Response Malawi

Cyclone Freddy, the longest sustained storm ever recorded, recently wreaked havoc in southern Malawi and Mozambique leaving many without food, shelter, access to clean water and health. The cyclone further deteriorated a situation already dire due to a cholera outbreak. This contribution aims at providing emergency relief assistance to communities in southern Malawi that have been affected by the consequences of the cyclone. In Malawi alone, almost six million people need urgent aid.

Afghanistan entered the year as the world’s largest and most severe humanitarian crisis. The Humanitarian Response Plan is funded only 5.5%, as per end of April 2023. Despite severe challenges, the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund allows implementing partners to respond quickly to most critical humanitarian needs through the delivery of live-saving assistance, addressing protection concerns and enhancing resilience. Localisation of aid is an important aspect of the Fund and a Swiss priority.
Engage, inspire, empower - Women in Business

Switzerland will make core contributions to four local actors working on women's economic empowerment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim is to provide more substantial and diversified support for women’s increased participation in the country's economic development. These partners will also jointly advocate for the adoption of gender-responsive and evidence-based policies and the allocation of adequate resources for women's economic empowerment by governments at all levels.

The Project will improve the governance of technical and vocational education and training, its financing and the collaboration between public and private sector. This will contribute to education and training programmes that meet labour market needs. As a result, economic growth, employment, and social cohesion as well as alignment with EU standards is stimulated. Switzerland will engage with actors who are willing to reform and provide its expertise with dual apprenticeship systems.
STREAM - Extending Social Protection to Migrant Workers in the South Asia – Gulf Corridor

Social protection (SP) is a fundamental human right, as well as a key enabler of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This innovative flagship programme provides migrant workers from South Asia in the Gulf with access to health care, work injury benefits, unemployment insurance, maternity protection and end of service indemnities. It strengthens SP schemes of countries of origin and destination as well as dialogue and coordination in the South Asia – Gulf migration corridor.

The project aims at strengthening the respect of humanitarian norms and principles by armed actors, generating awareness, knowledge, policies and behaviour change to promote the protection of civilians. The project will build on earlier phase and strengthen dissemination of humanitarian norms, enhance the capacity of community-based organizations and networks to engage with armed actors and finally generate evidence-based studies to inform appropriate actions and advocacy.

In Myanmar, the pandemic and military coup have increased the risks for gender-based violence (GBV) and deep-rooted gender inequality. Through the Women and Girls First programme, Switzerland supports women, girls and young people to realise their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and fulfil their potential. It does so by strengthening community-based and ethnic systems to be more responsive to needs related to GBV, SRHR and mental health.

This contribution is a contribution to the Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan established in June 2023 in the aftermath of the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023. UNHCR’s emergency response focuses on supporting the Government of Chad to ensure access to territory to the people fleeing violence in Sudan, on providing protection and multisectorial assistance and on relocating refugees to existing camps and creating new camps at the request of the Government.

The project builds on Switzerland’s democratic principles to foster good governance, at all levels, within electoral processes.
