Contribution 2023 to IFRC Emergency Appeal Earthquake Türkiye

07.02.2023 - 28.02.2025

Multiple earthquakes up to 7.7 magnitude hit southern Türkiye and Syria on 6 February. Both human casualties and material damages are extensive. The IFRC plans to assist 300’000 people through integrated emergency assistance, complemented with Health, WASH and protection components in affected areas in Türkiye. The decision to make this financial contribution was taken by the Humanitarian Aid Operations Cell on 08.02.2023.

Response to Earthquake M7.8 February 6th 2023 in Turkey and Syria

Following a severe Earthquake in the region of Gaziantep of a magnitude of 7.8 which caused tremendous destruction, humanitarian assistance will be provided under the form 1) of the deployment of the Rescue Chain; 2) the sending of a SET; 3) in-kind donations and 4) financial contributions for multilateral organisations or NGOs (in a separate credit proposal). Decisions on optimum use of funds will be taken by the Crisis Cell led by the HA delegate in close coordination with desk and CH representations in the region.

Contribution to Fondation Suisse de Déminage FSD project UXO Clearance in Kharkiv Oblast

As consequence of the Russian aggression, Ukraine is considered to be the most mined country in the world with approximately 30% of Ukraine’s territory possibly contaminated. This poses an imminent threat to life and livelihoods for returnees in liberated areas in Ukraine and for those who remained in their communities throughout the conflict and for internally displaced people. Fondation suisse de déminage implements mine action interventions, providing life-saving assistance through determination of the presence of explosive remnants, clearance activities and explosive ordnance risk education.


Healthy Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina

01.02.2023 - 31.10.2027

The high prevalence of smoking, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and alcohol missuse leads to 90% of deaths in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a loss in quality of life caused by preventable non-communicable diseases. This overburdens the health system which is mostly providing expensive curative services. The project will support the health authorities in reforming the health system to focus more on health promotion and disease prevention and ensuring citizens improve health literacy and adopt a healthier lifestyle.


Enhanced Opportunities for the Returning Migrants in Georgia

01.02.2023 - 31.10.2028

The project will support key areas of the Swiss-Georgian migration partnership: including return assistance, skills development, and diaspora engagement. It aims to strengthen the national migration management system by tackling systemic challenges, such as limited capacity and coordination between national and local stakeholders, insufficient local participation and resources, and a lack of engagement from the private sector. The focus will be on the integration of returned migrants. 


Mercy Corps: Strengthening Resilience in Agriculture, Livelihoods and Markets through Local Institutions in Greater Mundri

01.02.2023 - 31.10.2026

To sustainably move households out of chronic vulnerability, poverty and food insecurity by facilitating economic recovery and support for smallholder farmers and non-farm microenterprises. The support will consist of market system development (MSD), value chain development, vocational skills development and improved methods of agriculture, such as agro-ecology and conservation. The intervention will focus on women and youth and is highly relevant in a post-conflict context like Mundri (South Sudan).


Albania: Sustainable Rural Development

01.02.2023 - 31.12.2026

Large potential for additional value creation exists in the agriculture sector and related activities in Albania. The project will develop innovative, economically viable and inclusive business models for market actors to leverage investment and ultimately increase income and employment for the population in rural areas, especially for women, young people and returnees.


PROMOST IV - Promoting Market-Oriented Skills Training in the Great Lakes Region

01.02.2023 - 31.08.2026

Le manque de perspectives d’emploi est un défi majeur au Burundi et en RDC. Le programme PROMOST a contribué depuis 2012 à améliorer l’employabilité des jeunes (filles et garçons) issus des milieux défavorisés en favorisant leur accès à une formation professionnelle de qualité. Ce projet a jusqu’ici connu trois phases dont la dernière se termine le 31.01.2023 au Burundi et en RDC-Sud Kivu et le 31.12.2023 après prolongation au Rwanda. Tout en capitalisant sur les acquis des phases précédentes, cette phase de sortie mettra un accent sur l’institutionnalisation des dispositifs formation, la durabilité des systèmes d’EFTP et la qualité des emplois et revenus créés au Burundi et en RDC.


PAIE - Programme d’appui aux initiatives dans le secteur de l’élevage et à la cohésion sociale

La compétition autour de l’exploitation des ressources naturelles cause des tensions intercommunautaires, à risque d’être instrumentalisées par l’extrémisme violent. Le gouvernement du Bénin a initié des réformes pour améliorer la productivité liée à l’élevage et mieux gérer l’espace pastoral. Cette contribution au programme de promotion de l’élevage du GoB vise à renforcer la cohésion sociale par le renforcement des mécanismes de concertation, et à piloter un modèle de gestion spatiale pour une meilleure productivité et une mobilité pastorale réduite.

Enhancing Protection and Justice for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Jordan

Children are among the most affected by multiple crisis in Jordan. The holistic child protection intervention proposed by Terre des hommes (Tdh) addresses and responds to the complex and intertwined protection needs of the most vulnerable children and youth in Jordan. It links quality of services with institutionalcapacity building and advocacy, thereby fostering a right-based and more sustainable child protection system and addressing hindering social norms in a comprehensive way.


Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Tanzania

01.02.2023 - 28.02.2028

Tanzania is investing heavily in reforming sustainable health financing and leveraging integrated digital solutions to advance Universal Health Coverage and ensure that all Tanzanians have access to any quality health services they need, when and where they need, without financial hardship. Together with other development partners, Switzerland uses this momentum to support the government in establishing a Universal Health Insurance and the Center for Digital Health.

World Food programme (WFP) Contribution 2023 to support WFP’s operations in Ukraine

WFP works in Ukraine to support populations affected by the war. The programmes are designed to restore and stabilise economic activity and food systems, as well as sustain and strengthen institutional services and safety nets to reduce vulnerability in the longer term. They restore, stabilize, sustain and recover by: 1) meeting people’s urgent needs with food and cash 2) emphasising a local approach that supports the economy 3) supporting institutions and safety nets that protect Ukrainians 4) restoring productive assets and capacity.
