ASEM members will be seeking to strengthen cooperation between Asia and Europe through dialogue on a wide range of themes from trade and investment, connectivity and sustainable development to measures against climate change. ASEM is also a forum for addressing issues such as terrorism, non-proliferation, cyber-security, human rights and irregular migration.

ASEM currently has 53 members; Switzerland has been part of the dialogue platform since 2012. The summit is held every two years - alternating between Europe and Asia. President Berset is expected to hold various bilateral talks with heads of state and government from both continents on the fringes of the ASEM summit in Brussels.
