Second Swiss contribution – migration framework credit: Karin Keller-Sutter signs first implementation agreement with Greece
On the 14th of October 2022 Switzerland and Greece signed a framework agreement for the implementation of migration-related projects in areas such as asylum procedure, infrastructure, integration as well as voluntary return and reintegration. The agreement was signed by Federal Councilor Karin Keller-Sutter and Minister of Migration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi on the sidelines of a meeting of EU justice and home affairs ministers in Luxembourg.
The contribution of CHF 40 Mio. is part of the Second Swiss Contribution to support selected EU member states facing high migratory pressures. The Swiss contribution focuses on areas where the partner country has substantial needs and where Switzerland's own experience and expertise can bring added value. Support measures under the cooperation programme are scheduled to begin in 2023 and run until the end of 2026.
In April 2024 Greece and Switzerland agreed to adjust certain parts of the Country-Specific Set-Up of the Swiss Greek Cooperation Programme to respond to emerging needs in the migration field of Greece.
