On December 3rd, President Yoon declared martial law which in the meantime has been annulled. The community has resumed its daily activities and schools are open.

Swiss citizens are advised to keep updated by following reliable media sources, and to avoid any public demonstrations, especially politically in significant places.

For further information please consult the FDFA’s travel advices which are continuously reviewed and adjusted if necessary.

We strongly recommend to sign up in the FDFA’s travel app where you can manage your trips abroad.

As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic and financial affairs, legal arrangements, science, education and culture.

Travelling to Korea

If you plan to travel to Korea, please have a look at FDFA's travel advice to Korea. 

As part of Visit Korea (2023 - 2024) campaign, Swiss and Liechtenstein nationals are exempted from K-ETA until 31. 12. 2024 (KST).  The updated information about a possible extension will be published on K-ETA Notice (www.k-eta.go.kr) from the Ministry of Justice website in the course of December 2024.

1. Travel Admin App 

Download the free Travel Admin app, which provides support for Swiss citizens in preparing trips. It also offers useful information and services for travel. If you register your own trip in the app, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs can send you specific information and, if necessary, contact you if there is a serious crisis where you are.

2. Emergency Ready App

In addition, the Embassy recommends tourists and residents in the Republic of Korea to download the Emergency Ready App offered by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS). The app provides real-time disaster alerts, important emergency and Embassy contact details, and information on the nearest shelters or medical facilities. You may find more information on the National Disaster and Safety Portal.

3. Baro Emergency Reporting App 

Baro is a reporting app, which allows people to report any emergency to police, fire and coast guard by selecting an image or writing a short text. The app can be dowloaded, when you are in Korea and have a korean mobile number. Click here to scan for IOS (JPG, 34.3 kB)or Android. (JPG, 33.8 kB)

4. Renting Cars in the Republic of Korea

Tourists intending to drive or rent a car in Korea with international driving licenses are advised to ensure that the license includes the International Driving Permit Number on the front page of the document. The Domestic Driving Permit Number is not sufficient. Failure to provide this information may result in car rental companies refusing your booking.

To avoid any inconvenience, please verify the details with your respective Road and Trafficking Department in Switzerland or confirm with the car rental company before your trip.
