I wish you a warm welcome to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in Seoul.
Switzerland and the Republic of Korea have enjoyed excellent and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations on February 11, 1963. Their geographic distance notwithstanding, the two countries have developed strong political, economic, scientific and cultural ties:
Most notably, as a member of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC), Switzerland has, since the end of the Korean War in 1953, been deploying its efforts in support of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
A free-trade agreement between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – of which Switzerland is a member state – and the Republic of Korea has been in force since 2006. The Swiss Business Hub Korea is also contributing to the promotion of Swiss economic interests in Korea. Over 120 Swiss entrepreneurs have established subsidiaries, joint- ventures or sale offices in Korea.
Cooperation in the field of science and research is also growing in importance, not least because of the conclusion of the Swiss-Korean Agreement on Science and Technology in 2008 and the establishment of a Science & Technology Office within the Embassy of Switzerland in 2012.
This website is designed to help you obtain information about all the fields of cooperation between Switzerland and Korea as well as on the activities of the Embassy. Moreover, it contains information about travelling to Switzerland (visa requirements, tourism, studying) and to Korea. Finally, a choice of web links is given about Swiss authorities, media and culture.
I wish you a pleasant exploration of the site.
