Jakarta, 24 October 2018 - Ambassador Manuel Bessler, the Swiss Government’s Delegate for Humanitarian Aid, visited Palu on 22-23 October. He met with displaced people, authorities and local aid organizations. Accompanied by Kurt Kunz, Ambassador-designate of Switzerland to Indonesia, he reviewed Switzerland’s humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the earthquakes and tsunami. They donated additional material for water treatment and shelter to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

Switzerland had offered its assistance to the Indonesian Government on Saturday.

Following the earthquake and tsunami that destroyed large parts of the region surrounding the city of Palu on the island of Sulawesi on 28 September 2018, on Monday evening a Swiss Humanitarian Aid advance team was dispatched to Indonesia to determine the most urgent needs. Swiss Humanitarian Aid, which is part of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, had offered its assistance to the Indonesian government on Saturday.

JAKARTA, 15 December 2017 – Switzerland and ASEAN agreed to strengthen and deepen their Sectoral Dialogue Partnership through concrete cooperation activities. The 2nd Meeting of the ASEAN-Switzerland Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AS-JSCC) held on Friday, 15 December 2017 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta culminated in the adoption of the medium-term plan “ASEAN-Switzerland Practical Cooperation Areas for the period 2017-21”, which serves as framework for future collaboration.

Ten years after the devastating tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed more than 225,000 people, rendered millions homeless and caused massive destruction in 13 countries, various events will take place to remember the disaster of 26 December 2004. Switzerland will take part in memorial ceremonies in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India. The 2004 tsunami claimed the lives of 113 Swiss nationals. Switzerland supported the emergency aid and reconstruction efforts within the framework of the Swiss Confederation's Humanitarian Aid.
