The Hyper-Kamiokande project will be one of the most significant international projects in the field of neutrino research in the coming years, under the lead of Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Takaaki Kajita from the University of Tokyo.

In 2018, there were 500 members from 66 institutes from 12 countries involved in the T2K project, which shows a significant international interest in this project to continue their work and participate in the upcoming project. The participation and collaboration members is growing. Swiss groups have contributed to this project from the design to the scientific operation and are still involved in its successful data taking.

On Saturday, January 12, there was a site visit to the Super-Kamiokande Project in the mountains of Toyama, where its successor, the Hyper-Kamiokande neutrino detector is also planned to be built.

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has included the funding for feasibility studies in relation to Hyper-Kamiokande in fiscal year 2019 budget. The Hyper-Kamiokande experiment is aiming to start its operation in 2026.
