The “Strengthening Good Governance in Asian Countries” conference from September 4-6, co-organised by the Cabinet Secretariat of Government of Mongolia and the Local Governance Initiative and Network (LOGIN), provided a platform for participants to discuss a range of governance issues, including civil involvement and social responsibility, citizens' monitoring of election processes, women’s participation in politics, and capacity building.

Representatives from 11 Asian countries gathered in Ulaanbaatar in September to share best practices and experiences in the promotion of good governance.

LOGIN, of which Mongolia is a member, has 125 member organizations from 12 Asian countries. In addition to LOGIN delegates, participants also included government officials, chairs of aimag Citizens’ Representative Khurals, and NGO staff.

The conference also included a visit to One-Stop Shop (OSS) public service delivery centers in Dunjingarav and Zuunmod in Tuv aimag that enabled participants to experience firsthand the aimag’s decentralization efforts. Thirty government and private organizations provide up to 400 services at the OSSs visited.

The OSS is an innovative model that provides a range of public administrative services under one roof, making it easier and more time-efficient for people to access the services they need, including social insurance and welfare, civil registration, land and property administration, tax offices, notaries and banking. The government’s establishment of OSS centers nationwide was made possible with financial and technical support from the Government of Switzerland. There are now OSSs in every aimag and four in Ulaanbaatar.
