Contesto The food security situation in South Sudan has progressively deteriorated since the outbreak of conflict in 2013. Across the country, the years of conflict have severely undermined crop production and depleted livelihood options. 4.9 million people are estimated severely food insecure from February to April 2017. This number is projected to increase to 5.5 million people at the height of the 2017 lean season, i.e. in July. 100’000 people are facing starvation in parts of South Sudan where famine was declared. The magnitude of these food insecure populations is unprecedented across all periods.
