Swiss Days Istanbul 2022

After 2019 and now that the pandemic seems to be finally over, Swiss Days Istanbul took place for the second time from 23 to 25 September. The festival was organised by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Istanbul, the Swiss Business Hub Türkiye and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye. During the three days, a variety of events took place, most of them free of charge and open to the public.

How can something that is concealed be represented, be shown? This is precisely what Françoise Caraco has tried to undertake in the current book “Hidden Istanbul”. On a quest to find her ancestors, Françoise Caraco travelled to Istanbul numerous times and talked to people who knew or had known a Caraco—or Karako—or at least remembered the name.

In March, the well-known Swiss writer Jonas Lüscher completed a book tour through Turkey. The focus of his readings was the novel "Frühling der Barbaren" that was recently translated into the Turkish language.

The Swiss Consulate General in Istanbul organized on the 1 and 2 October 2021 an international Conference on the Swiss architects Gaspare and Guiseppe Fossati. The two brothers lived and worked in the 19th century in Istanbul.

The largest human chain in the world links Europe and Asia. Istanbul is the eighth step of the global "Beyond Walls" project that Saype initiated in June 2019 in Paris. It was born from fortuitous encounters and a will of the people to bring the largest human chain in the world to Istanbul. It is therefore a real collaborative and multilateral project. For a painter whose monumental works want to be bridges thrown between cultures, the city of Istanbul constitutes an essential stage, at the crossroads of the worlds of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Concert
Every year, March is an opportunity to celebrate the Francophonie. The Consulate General of Switzerland in Istanbul collaborate with the French High School Notre-Dame de Sion and Saint-Joseph High School in Izmir and offers an evening of French songs performed by Swiss soprano Maria Gessler accompanied by Turkish pianist Baris Büyükyildirim.
