Migration Dynamics in Secondary Cities

Most migrants nowadays live in cities, and their socio-economic inclusion and protection are central for sustainable development. The programme supports cities to plan for and create inclusive, prosperous, and resilient communities. It gives city actors a voice in regional and global debates on migration, and is powered by the continued, strategic collaboration with the Mayors Migration Council and Cities Alliance, linked with longstanding Swiss expertise and rooted in SDC's priorities.
Formation professionnelle et Renforcement de Capacités pour I’Emploi (FORCE), phase 2

La Suisse soutient le gouvernement béninois, les acteurs publics et privés ainsi que les communes dans le développement d’un dispositif de formation professionnelle duale. Le programme FORCE vise à améliorer l’employabilité de 20 000 jeunes femmes et hommes dans le nord du Bénin. Son objectif est de favoriser leur insertion socio-professionnelle durable dans les secteurs de l’artisanat et de l’agriculture, tout en contribuant à la réduction des facteurs de vulnérabilité à l’extrémisme violent.

Switzerland contributes to Albania’s efforts to strengthen effective, evidence-based, and inclusive governance at local level in the context of EU accession. In its exit phase, the focus of the project will lie on the sustainability of the improvements reached through the direct support provided to all municipalities for improved services, strengthened capacities and the introduction of a performance-based system.

This intervention supports Palestinian national and local institutions in strengthening transparent, accountable and effective governance. In a context of prolonged political uncertainty, severe fiscal crisis, and security challenges, it helps translate the Palestinian reform agenda into tangible improvements for Palestinian communities. The Swiss contribution focuses on digitalising municipal services and on strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of the Central Elections Commission.

Opportunités durables d’autonomie des jeunes sahraouis

La Suisse soutient l’UNHCR pour renforcer l’autonomie et la résilience des réfugiés sahraouis vivant depuis plus de 50 ans à Tindouf, dans un environnement désertique extrême ainsi que les demandeurs d’asile en Algérie. Le projet renforce leur autonomie économique en améliorant leurs compétences, leur employabilité et leurs possibilités de générer des revenus. Cet engagement à Tindouf contribue aux objectifs migratoires prioritaires de la Suisse.
EGY, GIZ, Vocational Skills Development

Around 800’000 young people enter the Egyptian labour market every year. Since 2021, Switzerland has contributed to Egypt’s technical education reform strategy because a well-functioning Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system is needed to equip young people with skills that match labour market demand, support their transition into employment and help them earn a decent income. The exit phase of this project will further strengthen and digitalize key processes to support a more systematic and effective implementation of dual TVET to assure a sustainable exit.
Green Agenda in Serbia: Get Started, Take Action and Scale Up, phase 2

With this project SDC contributes to efficient, inclusive and sustainable implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans in Serbia, envisaged by the EU Green Deal. In this project phase, the Swiss contribution to UNDP, in parallel to funding from the EU, will focus on biodiversity, depollution and ecosystem resilience. Additionally, the government’s capacities will be increased to gradually take the lead in the process of supporting public and private actions, scaling, and consequently reaching climate targets.

Through its partnership with the International Research and Consulting Centre (IRCC) of the Institute of Federalism (IFF) at the University of Fribourg, SDC promotes locally owned governance reforms in developing countries. The Program provides comparative research, advisory services and capacity development on good governance, including federalism and decentralisation, to strengthen inclusive institutions, democratic resilience, prosperity, conflict prevention and sustainable development.
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Resilience Programme

Switzerland will support North Macedonia in strengthening enabling conditions for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience through a single-phase intervention, with a focus on improving the management and financial sustainability of protected areas, preparing an application for Green Climate Fund, and raising stakeholders’ awareness of relevant climate and environmental issues. It will engage responsible key institutions at all levels, and it will contribute to country’s EU integration process.

GEI works with countries over the long term, starting with an assessment of their needs. It builds skills through training and expert support. Through its global network GEI also helps development partners, partner countries and civil society organisations work together and use evidence to make better decisions.
Strengthening Jordan’s National Data System through Support to the 2026 General Population and Housing Census

Switzerland supports Jordan in conducting the 2026 Population and Housing Census through a contribution to UNFPA. The census will provide vital data on the country’s population and living conditions, helping policymakers make informed decisions, allocate resources effectively, and plan for Jordan’s future development. The project will also strengthen digital systems to make census data more accessible and useful for years to come.
