Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund (DCPSF)

The Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund (DCPSF) is a UNDP managed trust fund for Darfur since 2007. It supports peacebuilding activities and fosters social cohesion in conflict affected communities. It synergizes the undertakings with other multilateral humanitarian funding tools and operations of other partners. DCPSF paves the way to recovery and furthermore to development. It accelerates transition from relief to recovery and stability. In the present phase it will enhance its focus on women and youth and links with institutional law institutions.

Swiss Civil Society Organizations Platform on Migration and Development

Obtaining a coherent and practical Swiss foreign policy on migration (acknowledging the potential of migration for development) depends on the close collaboration between Swiss officials, civil society organisations and the private sector. In its second phase, the project “Swiss CSO Platform on Migration and Development” will contribute to shaping a constructive narrative on Migration and Development, while further strengthening the Swiss Civil Society’s contribution towards the Agenda 2030 and the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM)/Global Compact on Refugees (GCR).

Programme Culture et développement en Suisse: Soutien de la DDC aux festivals de cinéma 2018 - 2023

Film festivals are crucial for the diffusion of arthouse-cinema. SDC supports film festivals in Switzerland, as engagement for the cinema of the South and the East. The contribution of SDC allows the film festivals to investigate more in the discovery of film landscapes of the South and the East, to provide filmmakers an access to professional networks as well as skills and expertise, and to give their works additional visibility, in Switzerland, internationally and in their own countries.

Visions Sud Est 2019-2022

Filmmakers and artists at large contribute to the reflection of relevant issues shaping the future of our society. The fund Visions Sud Est supports film production in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. It is a partnership between SDC, major film festivals and a film distributor in Switzerland. Vision Sud Est is a contribution for filmmakers to bring in their voice and for ensuring the diversity of artistic expression in Switzerland and internationally.

Improving the Respect of Humanitarian Norms by Armed Actors in Yemen

The project aims to contribute to the protection of Yemeni civilian population from the effects of armed conflict. The awareness of Yemeni armed non-state actors’ (ANSA) on humanitarian norms, notably on landmines and explosive remnants of war, and children and armed conflict is raised which positively influences standards, policies and practices of armed groups.

Strengthening spaces for the protection and participation of children affected by conflict and armed violence in Tumaco

After the sign of the peace agreement with the FARC, new dynamics of violence have raised in the territories. The expansion and reconfiguration of the non-state armed groups, post-demobilization armed groups, dissidents and other armed groups have increased the humanitarian impact, particularly in rural areas. The deterioration of humanitarian indicators since 2016 evidences the need to continue with the humanitarian response and the protection initiatives, particularly for vulnerable populations such as boys, girls, adolescents and youth as well as afro and indigenous communities.

Contribution to the International AIDS Society Educational Fund Programme

Significant yet insufficient progress has been made in the HIV/AIDS response. The body of evidence is large and tools are available but they are not fast enough disseminated, contextualized and included into national policies and programmes. The Educational Fund addresses this by offering countries different tailor-made modules. Through Swiss support, the programme will increasingly embed HIV/AIDS into a broader health response.

Start-ups and social enterprises for global health

Reaching the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals, including health in low and middle-income countries, requires not only additional financing but also innovative and scalable low-cost solutions that are adaptable to different contexts. The initiative strives to tap the potential of start-up companies in these countries to improve health. The Swiss Impact Hubs in Geneva and Basel aim to support and connect start-ups with potential for scale with major healthcare industry and financial investors.

Projet Ecole résiliente au Burkina Faso

Les attaques terroristes qui frappent le Burkina Faso depuis 2017 ont entrainé la fermeture d’écoles et privé quelque 875’000 enfants (46% de filles) de leur droit à l’éducation. La Suisse soutiendra le Gouvernement, à travers l’UNICEF, afin d’assurer la continuité éducative à tous les enfants dans un environnement scolaire sûr. Par cette intervention mettant l’accent sur les enfants/jeunes, la Suisse agit en faveur de la stabilité du Burkina Faso et de la région, répondant ainsi aussi à ses intérêts propres.

RAAYI: Appui aux médias du Niger pour une opinion citoyenne

Au Niger, en dépit de la consécration de la liberté de la presse par la constitution et l’émergence d’un pluralisme médiatique, les médias n’arrivent pas à satisfaire les besoins en information des citoyens, encore moins à répondre aux attentes des jeunes et des femmes. Ce programme améliore l’accès des populations à une information de qualité, leur permettant de participer à la construction de la démocratie et à la stabilité du pays en promouvant une culture de paix.

Blue Peace Index

Financial investment in sustainable forms of water cooperation remains limited. Switzerland’s expertise on transboundary water management combined with the Economist Intelligence Unit’s understanding of financial investment bear the unique potential to trigger the change by developing a Blue Peace Index. The aim of such an Index is to increase the awareness on the benefits of cooperation and attracting financial resources for sustainable and resilient investment forms for water cooperation ultimately contributing to a more peaceful and stable society.

Increasing access to patented medicines with the pharmaceutical sector.

01.11.2018 - 31.12.2022

2 billion people worldwide do not have access to all 460 essential medicines, including 50 patented therapies that are often not even available in low-income countries. The Medicines Patent Pool negotiates voluntary licenses with patent holders including Swiss companies that it grants to multiple generic manufacturers to reduce prices for low-income settings. The Swiss support enables the Pool to expand its operations beyond HIV and tuberculosis to other treatments like for cancer and diabetes.
