Maintaining high biodiversity in agro-ecosystems contributes to poverty reduction in rural livelihoods. Better knowledge, tools and institutional arrangements are needed to support poverty alleviation and preserve biodiversity. Considering the current development context in Lao PDR, WWF supports the conservation and sustainable economic use of rattan and bamboo, aiming at improving the livelihood of upland farmers and enhancing the policy environment.

Skateistan offers quality educational, sport and recreational opportunities for the empowerment of Afghan children and youth, particularly girls and marginalized groups, with an aim to increase their confidence, abilities and involvement in their communities as well as to strengthen their social networks. It runs across two purpose-built project sites in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif.

Par son appui financier au projet de la Croix-Rouge française, la DDC contribue au renforcement des capacités de résilience des populations affectées par le conflit (hôtes, personnes déplacées internes, réfugiées et retournées) les plus vulnérables socio économiquement tout en garanttissant un accès aux soins de qualité pour les enfants de moins de 5 ans et les femmes enceintes et femmes allaitantes.

Programme d’Appui à la Gouvernance et la Décentralisation (PAGODE) - Phase 1

Le PAGODE renforce les acteurs de la gouvernance locale en tant que connecteur de programmes et d’actions de développement dans 18 communes du grand Sud, selon les priorités du Ministère del’Intérieur et des Collectivités Territoriales. Un apport sera mis à disposition de ces communes pour des investissements en appui à leur plan de développement. De par son expérience en gouvernance locale, ainsi que son expertise dans l’appui de ces processus à travers le monde (y compris en Haïti avec 2 années préparatoires), la Suisse a un avantage et une légitimité clairs pour accompagner cette importante réforme en Haïti.

Global Diet Quality Project

Diet is the most important determinant of health. Multiple forms of malnutrition co-exist with overweight and obesity being the fastest growing form, particularly in developing countries. SDC as a main bilateral donors to address non-communicable diseases aims to close a significant data gap by facilitating the generation of routinely collected and internationally comparable data on diet quality, thereby contributing to a better understanding of dietary trends, awareness, and policies.

Strenghtening local communities and public officials’ capacities to manage conflicts over land and territories in seven departments in Colombia SDC has supported the implementation of Land Restitution Policy throughout institutional strengthening and context analysis by applying situational approach. Due to the land restitution process’ ongoing challenges and the requirements of the Peace Agreement (with FARC), the partners have identified the necessity to work directly with rural communities and territorial authorities to develop their capacities to manage conflicts over land, and integrate into the strategy articulated actions between the local population, the authorities and the academy for the land policy’s future in Colombia.

Acqua e servizi igienico-sanitari per i rifugiati siriani e le comunità ospiti in Libano

La crisi in Siria ha notevoli ripercussioni in Libano. Il Paese ospita infatti oltre un milione di rifugiati siriani, ma i bisogni basilari delle persone non vengono soddisfatti a causa di questo aumento demografico senza precedenti e della mancanza di infrastrutture pubbliche. La DSC fornisce supporto alla Croce Rossa Libanese per garantire ai rifugiati siriani e alle comunità che li ospitano nel governatorato di Akkar, ai confini con la Siria, l’accesso all’acqua e ai servizi igienico-sanitari.

UNFPA: My safety, our future: women and girl’s empowerment and protection from GBV in conflict-affected Yemen

The conflict in Yemen has increased the vulnerability of women and girls to abuse and exploitation. The coping mechanisms of individuals and communities have changed, the protection systems broken down and the available services have low quality. The project aims at scaling up UNFPA’s gender-based violence (GBV) responses and to empower the most vulnerable among the GBV survivors through multisector approach and specialised services. The project has a strong component to sensitize communities as well as the humanitarian community on GBV.
