OXFAM : Renforcement des capacités communautaires à résister et s’adapter aux chocs et contraintes de l’insécurité et de la violence au Masisi, Nord Kivu

Dans le territoire de Masisi, l’environnement de conflit induit de nombreuses menaces de protection, qui ont elles-mêmes des répercussions négatives sur les moyens de subsistance des ménages. Le projet vise à renforcer la capacité des individus, des ménages et des réseaux communautaires à résister aux chocs et aux stresses liées au conflit, en renforçant leur environnement protecteur et en donnant aux groupes communautaires les capacités d’investir dans leurs moyens de subsistance et dans des stratégies positives de survie. Ce projet s’étalera sur deux phases au minimum : la première jusqu’à la fin 2017, et la seconde en 2018.

Improving food availability and access for vulnerable populations in Akobo East

This project aims at contributing to the improvement of food security and resilience of the population in Akobo East (Jonglei), through enhancing agricultural productivity, increasing incomes, and promoting alternative livelihood options. Akobo East faces crisis levels of food insecurity, but has the potential for agricultural development. To address the volatile situation, the project also contains an emergency component to respond to urgent humanitarian needs, if required.

UNCCD Backstopping Mandate

Desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD) are major drivers of global change, especially in drylands, where some of the most vulnerable ecosystems and peoples can be found. The Committee on Science and Technology (CST) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is a subsidiary body to provide advice on scientific and technological matters relating to DLDD. SDC has the lead function for UNCCD matters within the Federal Administration. SDC is supported by scientific expertise and as a consequence enabled to provide scientific evidence to the CST.

Par son appui financier au projet d'ACF de réponse intégrée préventive et curative face à la sous-nutrition aiguë sévère sur Bangui et sa périphérie, la DDC souhaite contribuer à la réduction de la mortalité infantile par un renforcement de la prise en charge de la malnutrition aiguë sévère dans la ville de Bangui et les districts sanitaires de Begoua et Bimbo, pallier aux défaillances du système saitaire, et permetttre de maintenir une continuité des activités de prise en charge de la malnutrition et de soutien psychosocial.

Low Carbon Cement (LCC)

In the production of cement, CO₂ is emitted through fossil fuel combustion and through a chemical reaction of the raw materials. Because cement is used widely as a construction material, its production contributes significantly to global warming. In Phase 1 of the project, EPFL in collaboration with partner institutions in Cuba and India conducted extensive research on a new cement type (LC³) which emits 10-30% less CO₂ emissions compared to commercially available cements. Phase 2 of the project aims at preparing the grounds for large-scale production of the new cement by the industry, with a particular focus on India and Cuba.

Market Makers in Bosnia and Herzegovina

MarketMakers (MM) addresses the high rate of youth unemployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the main cause for the acute brain drain. To contribute to reduction of youth unemployment the project aims at systemic changes in the ICI, food production and processing, tourism and tradable services sectors, leading to their growth, more investments and new job opportunities.

Postharvest Management in Sub-Saharan Africa – FAO/IFAD/WFP

Food losses in Sub-Saharan Africa account for almost one third of the production and occur mostly at postharvest handling and at processing level. The goal of this project is to reduce postharvest losses for improved food security of smallholder farmers. The project will be jointly implemented by FAO, IFAD and WFP focusing on a global Community of Practice to enhance knowledge sharing and e-learning, and on support to policy development in three target countries (Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Burkina Faso).
