Shomoshti – Prosperity for the Poor and Disadvantaged

Over 180,000 rural poor and disadvantaged households will enhance the productivity of their farming and cottage businesses through the use of improved technical and market services. This will result in increased incomes and the ability to pay for social services. Through the strengthening of voice and participation of the poor and disadvantaged in local planning, their access to services in nutrition, health and education, and thus wellbeing, will be improved.

Global Blue Peace: Le Pôle Eau de Genève pour l’eau, la paix et la sécurité

Le Pôle Eau de Genève – Geneva Water Hub (GWH) regroupe les capacités centrales pour l’hydrodiplomatie au sein de la Genève internationale. En s’appuyant sur ses trois composantes (savoir & éducation, think tank, réseau), le GWH agit comme Secrétariat du Panel Global de Haut Niveau pour l’Eau et la Paix (7F-09770.01) et de son groupe d’amis. L’objectif de cette seconde phase est de poursuivre les réalisations du GWH pour l’hydrodiplomatie ainsi que de procéder à son institutionnalisation.

Postharvest Management in Sub-Saharan Africa

In Africa, the value of annual postharvest losses for cereals is estimated at 4 billion US$. In Sub-Saharan Africa losses reach up to 40% of the harvested crop. This project promotes simple technologies (metal silos, improved traditional silos, hermetic bags a.o.) to increase food security and nutrition among smallholder farm families. An estimated 10’000 families benefit directly in two focus countries (Benin, Mozambique). The knowledge gained serves to market postharvest storage options in several other Sub-Saharan countries.

Health Care Waste Management in Kyrgyz Hospitals

Hospital acquired infections are a serious burden affecting the quality and safety of medical care in Kyrgyzstan. In spite of the Ministry of Health showing a strong support to infection prevention control, the hospital acquired infections‘ prevalence is still high due to bw capacities and limited resources. The project aims at improving the quality of care based on pibots‘ experience (since 2008) through institutionalisation, standardization and full integration of all infection control interventions into the medical system.


AsDF: Replenishment of the Asian Development Fund (AsDF-12)

Switzerland will support with CHF 28 million the 11th replenishment of the Asian Development Fund (AsDF). The projects financed by the AsDF contribute to reducing poverty and improving living conditions of people in the poorest regions in Asia and countries most affected by natural disasters and conflict situations.  With this participation in the AsDF, Switzerland contributes to the achievement of the agenda 2030 for sustainable development and the implementation of the agenda from the climate change conference (COP21) in Paris.

Health Promotion Cabo Delgado

Switzerland contributed to health promotion in Cabo Delgado Province in Northern Mozambique by supporting the retention of health promotion workers, strengthening community involvement and the public finance management. Phase 2 of the project builds up on this and newly address Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in order to improve access and quality in the provision of health and WASH services targeting the 23 rural health posts in  three districts of the Province that are serving a total population of 570’000 people.

The Agro-Biodiversity Initiative (TABI)

Maintaining high biodiversity in agro-ecosystems contributes to poverty reduction in rural livelihood. Better knowledge, tools and institutional arrangements are needed to support poverty alleviation and preserve biodiversity. Considering the current development context in Lao PDR, TABI supports the conservation and sustainable economic use of agro-biodiversity (ABD) in multifunctional landscapes, aiming at improving the livelihood of uplands farmers.

Soutien au Panel Global de Haut Niveau pour l’Eau et la Paix

Le Panel Global de Haut Niveau pour l’Eau et la Paix, initiative fer de lance initié par la Suisse ainsi que 14 pays co-parrains, a été lancée avec succès le 15 novembre 2016 dans le cadre du projet Blue Peace Global. L’objectif de cette phase est d’assurer la bonne continuation des travaux du Panel, soutenu par le GWH (7F-08448.02) et le Strategic Foresight Group, ainsi que d’assure par la suite la promotion de leurs recommandations au plus haut niveau politique.

Professional Education Leading to Employability of Youth in Nicaragua

During this closing phase some ten thousand young men and women who are at risk of being excluded increase their employability, based on improved curricula with new soft and entrepreneurial skills. To that end, To that end, instruments which were developed during earlier phases are now consolidated for the purpose of continuously updating the curriculum, the certification of competencies as well as the teacher training. Existing alliances with the private sector will be deepened in order to direct the educational supply in such a way that it satisfies market demands and increases employability.

GNDR, Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction, Contribution 2017-2018

This credit proposal comes in support of GNDR's mission to enhance the ability of civil society organisations and the people they represent (particularly marginalised high-risk groups) to work together in a collaborative and coordinated manner for full and effective participation in the development and implementation of DRR and resilience policies/plans, and to contribute to strengthening governance and accountability at local, subnational and national levels.
