Inclusive territorial economic development in the Muskitia region, department of Gracias a Dios

The economic development programme is carried out in the Honduran Muskitia, a fragile indigenous territory with great productive potential. The program empowers the territorial stakeholders in the cocoa and fishing value chains and the basic grains production chain located in the mid and lower watershed of the Patuca river. It promotes public-private alliances that respect indigenous rights in accordance to the convention 169 of the international labor organization. These public-private alliances generate 3000 new jobs and increase the income of 1500 indigenous families by 10-30%.

ACF Réponse intégrée MAS Bangui 2016-17

Par son appui financier au projet d’ACF de réponse intégrée préventive et curative face à la sous-nutrition aiguë sévère sur Bangui et sa périphérie en période post-crise, la DDC souhaite contribuer à la réduction de la mortalité infantile par un renforcement de la prise en charge de la malnutrition aiguë sévère dans la ville de Bangui et les districts sanitaires de Begoua et Bimbo, et pallier aux défaillances du système sanitaire.

The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.

Vocational Skills Development (VSD II)

The second phase of the project focuses on consolidating the results achieved thus far in the development of the short-term skills development and career guidance services. Moreover it will upgrade the schools’ capacities in provision of long-term vocational trainings in the selected most demanded occupations. Interventions in six Western aimags, Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan, South-Gobi and Choir will enhance the employability of around 180’000 young and adult women and men.

Contribution to Confidence Building Measures Program in Transnistria – Promoting Confidence in the Health Sector

Population living in Transnistria has limited access to quality maternal and child health care. The vaccination coverage rate is declining and the number of premature and underweight newborns is increasing. The project aims to approximate maternal and child health care in Transnistria to international standards, as well as to improve the access to and quality of maternal and child health services at secondary and primary level. A special focus is put on nutrition and immunization. The project offers good opportunities for building trust across borders through common trainings of professionals and concerted efforts on immunization.

Increasing the efficiency of assets recovery and management

The project aims to improve the capacities of Romanian authorities in asset recovery and management of proceeds of crime. To achieve this objective, a centralized database will be set up to track all assets and a comparative study on EU and international best practices on the management system of the confiscated assets will be elaborated.

Support to the Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF) in Ethiopia

The Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF) managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) provides flexible funding for life-saving interventions in Ethiopia. Due to consecutive failure of rainfall amplified by the El Nino phenomenon, the continued influx of refugees as well as sporadic disease outbreaks, Ethiopia is currently facing a serious humanitarian crisis. Switzerland's contribution to the HRF allows for a rapide, flexible, coordinated and needs-based humanitarian response.

Support to Strategic UNRWA Interventions

SDC support to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the Palestine Refugees in the Near East) will enable the Agency to further implement strategic interventions in support of the 2016-21 UNRWA Medium-Term-Strategy. These interventions will also strengthen the Swiss role in the Agency’s governing structure and support the leadership of Commissioner-General’s Executive Office. The strategic interventions will build on SDC’s comparative advantages and expertise.

South Sudan, MEDAIR: Refugees Maban

The Yusuf Batil Camp is the second largest refugee camp in the Maban County, with a population of 40’648. With only a few small villages in the area and low government capacities, refugees depend on United Nations and Non-Governmental Organisation partners to provide all essential services such as water, sanitation and health care.
