Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.

Contribution to UNRWA's General Fund 2016

The contribution to UNRWA’s 2016 General Fund (regular budget) will allow sustaining the Agency’s humanitarian and human development programmes that service over 5 Mio Palestine refugees and contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East. The key programmes in education, health, relief and social services are primarily funded from the General Fund, which has remained critically under-funded for a number of years.

oPt: Community empowerment in the Gaza Strip

SDC partnership with the Culture and Free Thought Association (CFTA) enables the provision of quality services in vulnerable and marginalized areas of the Gaza Strip. CFTA’s work aims at strengthening the capacities of the Palestinian civil society in the Gaza Strip through integrated programs for children, youth, and women – in particular non formal education, psychosocial support, artistic skills development, rights awareness and fighting against domestic violence - and support to CBOs organizations and networks. CFTA is also a platform for youth and women to become active members of their communities.

Enhancing advocacy and coordination capacity of AIDA in oPt. 2016-2017

SDC contribution to the Association of International Development Agencies (AIDA) in oPt will contribute to enhance the influence of international civil society actors to improve coordination, to promote joint strategic thinking and improve advocacy work, while using a rights-based and conflict-sensitive approach to humanitarian and development assistance. The contribution seeks to enhance the effectiveness of aid and to promote and protect people's rights. It is in line with SDC Cooperation Strategy 2015-2018 for the oPt.

Long-term support to UNRWA’s reform

This intervention will enable UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the Palestine Refugees in the Near East) to further implement its development mandate by supporting two substantial components of its 2016-21 reform agenda, namely: the Resource Mobilization Strategy and the Protection Framework. These reforms will improve the overall provision of services by increasing and diversifying funding for the Agency and by strengthening the protection mandate and activities of UNRWA.
