The five decades-long armed conflict in Colombia continues to cause humanitarian consequences such as internal displacement and limited access to basic services. Due to their abundance of natural resources and strategic location near the border of Ecuador and the Pacific, the southwestern departments of Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Nariño are caught up in a scenario of armed confrontation fuelled by the cultivation, production and trafficking of drugs and illegal mining. To improve its living conditions, the affected rural population needs international support in the domains of water and sanitation, housing and livelihoods, as well as protection.

Civil Society Support Facility – Constituency Building

The overall objective of the Civil Society Support Facility – Constituency Building project is to contribute to enhanced engagement of CSOs with their constituents and to joint agenda setting to promote positive social change in Macedonia. Through enhanced levels of organisation and legitimacy CSOs will be enabled to promote good governance at national level and improve accountability of the state towards citizens – elements which are crucial to building a more transparent and democratic society.

Community Forums - Exit Phase

The Community Forum instrument has been introduced as a mechanism for citizen participation in decision making at local level, thus fulfilling an institutional gap in the context of good governance in the country. The concept was developed through several phases and was applied in two third of the Macedonian municipalities. To foster sustainability the exit phase focuses on independently organised Forums and on the knowhow transfer to the municipalities association.

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest corporate responsibility platform worldwide, working towards the vision of a sustainable and inclusive global economy that delivers lasting benefits to people, communities and markets. Switzerland has been a major supporter of the UNGC from its inception and with this sixth phase core contribution is supporting the implementation of the UNGC’s 2014–2016 strategy, aiming at (1) mainstreaming the Global Compact’s ten principles in business strategies around the world; and (2) catalysing business action in support of UN goals and issues.

JIWASA Programme – Strengthening Urban MSEs

Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) involved in processing have the potential to contribute to industrial development in Bolivia, but their productivity is low. The Jiwasa Programme is a government initiative that seeks to increase production and incomes. With public and private sector support, it will provide direct and strategic services to five production clusters prioritised by the Bolivian government. 10’000 jobs will be improved, and gender equality and cleaner production will be promoted.

Blue Peace Central Asia Strengthening of the Regional Institutional Framework for Integrated Water Resources Management in Central Asia

JOR. Integrated Disaster Risk Management and DRR/CCA/Water Awareness

The vulnerability of the Jordanian society and its economy to natural hazards , water scarcity and climate change induced disasters are owed to the limited proactive approaches to disaster prevention and mitigation, insufficient institutional capacities at the national and local levels, lack of trained human resources, lack of awareness amongst senior officials and communities and unsatisfactory implementation of existing policies. This project; which will be directly implemented by SDC office Amman; has been developed in order to bridge the gap; at governorates (large cities) and municipality levels; in capacities and plans dealing with DRR disaster preparedness and prevention.

Resources for Local Democracy

At the request of the Serbian Government, SDC will support three reforms on Serbia’s path towards European integration: 1) the enforcement of a municipal finance law that awards good performance of local governments and ensures the necessary resources for democratic decisions; 2) the development of regional development policies for reducing regional disparities, including mechanisms for disaster risk prevention; and 3) high quality municipal audits aiming to achieve a rational use of public resources.

The project aims at strengthening the voice of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in the discussion on a universal framework on sustainable development Post-2015 by creating better conditions for LDCs to discuss, develop and articulate their priorities for a Post-2015 Development Agenda, which will set the sustainable development framework for decades to come. The project will also increase the capacity and contribution of LDC stakeholders in the implementation, monitoring and follow-up of the Istanbul Programme of Action for LDC countries (IPoA).
