The vulnerability of the Jordanian society and its economy to natural hazards , water scarcity and climate change induced disasters are owed to the limited proactive approaches to disaster prevention and mitigation, insufficient institutional capacities at the national and local levels, lack of trained human resources, lack of awareness amongst senior officials and communities and unsatisfactory implementation of existing policies. This project; which will be directly implemented by SDC office Amman; has been developed in order to bridge the gap; at governorates (large cities) and municipality levels; in capacities and plans dealing with DRR disaster preparedness and prevention.

At the request of the Serbian Government, SDC will support three reforms on Serbia’s path towards European integration: 1) the enforcement of a municipal finance law that awards good performance of local governments and ensures the necessary resources for democratic decisions; 2) the development of regional development policies for reducing regional disparities, including mechanisms for disaster risk prevention; and 3) high quality municipal audits aiming to achieve a rational use of public resources.

Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Post-2015 Development Agenda

The project aims at strengthening the voice of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in the discussion on a universal framework on sustainable development Post-2015 by creating better conditions for LDCs to discuss, develop and articulate their priorities for a Post-2015 Development Agenda, which will set the sustainable development framework for decades to come. The project will also increase the capacity and contribution of LDC stakeholders in the implementation, monitoring and follow-up of the Istanbul Programme of Action for LDC countries (IPoA).

The current Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in West Africa is unprecedented in terms of number of cases, deaths and its geographical spread. Communities have a vital role to play in the battle against this horrific disease. Since the confirmation of the EVD in Liberia, the IFRC and partners have supported the National Society to develop a regional response strategy. While supporting a strengthened coordination among the RCRC components, SDC enhances a local response.

The Constituent Assembly (CA) elected in 2013 is less inclusive than the first one and around 85% are new members. Thus, the CA Secretariat asked for capacity development to enable CA members to address the contentious issues of the first CA (2008-2012). A special attention will be given to empower representatives of excluded groups. UNDP SPCBN is a unique platform to strengthen inclusive and participatory processes in constitution-drafting and to foster consensus building.

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is among the most important partners of Switzerland in the implementation of the core mandate of its Humanitarian Aid. As the highest deliberative body, the international conference is of great importance for the Movement’s work, as well as for the promotion of international humanitarian law (IHL). The support for the conference, and thereby for the Movement, as well as the strengthening of IHL are strong priorities for Switzerland.

Niger, IRC: Protection des populations déplacées de Diffa en provenance du Nigéria

La déclaration de l'Etat d'urgence en mai 2013 dans les Etats du Nord du Nigeria et l'offensive militaire en cours contre les militants du groupe islamiste Boko Haram ont causé des déplacements importants au Niger. A date le pays compte plus de 60'000 déplacés et l'UNHCR estime que ce nombre s'élèvera à 100'000 personnes avant la fin 2014. Ce projet contribue à réduire les souffrances des personnes déplacées et à appuyer les communautés hôtes en termes de protection contre les violences et de sécurité alimentaire.

In the Western Balkans, artistic expression and cooperation between cultural actors have proven to be powerful instruments for supporting processes linked to democratisation. Among these are intercultural dialogue, mutual tolerance, social cohesion and even economic development. By contributing to the Balkans Arts and Cultural Fund (BAC), set up by the European Cultural Foundation (ECF), SDC supports independent cultural work as important agent in fostering inclusive, democratic and prosperous societies in the region.

Enhance balanced education in Afghanistan - BALEDU

The project aims at enhancing the quality of general education as well as the access of girls to primary and secondary education. To do so, it supports teacher training institutions and girls’ schools in the province of Takhar. It promotes the commitment of Takhar communities to girls’ education. On a national level, it works with the Teacher Education Directorate (TED) of the Ministry of Education (MoE) to enhance gender equality in teaching nationwide.

Nelle regioni di Syunik e Vayots Dzor, nell’Armenia del Sud, la maggior parte degli agricoltori pratica un’agricoltura di sussistenza e riesce appena a provvedere ai bisogni della propria famiglia. Questo progetto intende aiutare gli agricoltori ad aumentare la produzione di carne e di latte, e di conseguenza anche i redditi. A tal fine, le attività puntano a migliorare la salute del bestiame sostenendo i servizi veterinari locali, a facilitare l’accesso ai mercati della carne e del latte e a promuovere lo scambio di conoscenze tra gli agricoltori.

Integral water management

Since 2007 Bolivia is implementing a national Watershed-policy, which is based on a 20-years-project work of Swiss EZA in this area and which aims for an integral water management. Together with other providers Switzerland supports the implementation of the 2nd phase of the national plan for Watershed-management on national level and in the 4 Andean departments. This way, the resilience of 62.500 families will be improved directly and of 300.000 indirectly in the next 4 ½ years.

Les inégalités entre hommes et femmes restent très importantes au Burkina Faso, touchant tous les secteurs. La Suisse soutient 3 actions complémentaires : un financement au Panier Commun qui permet au Ministère de la Promotion de la Femme et du Genre de mettre en œuvre la Politique Nationale Genre (2009) du gouvernement ; un financement au Fonds Commun Genre pour soutenir les activités de la société civile et un accompagnement technique pour soutenir les programmes suisses dans l’application de l’égalité de genre.
