Supporting Institutional Reforms in Develop-ing Countries through the Institute of Federal-ism IFF, Fribourg

Through its partnership with the International Research and Consulting Centre (IRCC) of the Institute of Federalism (IFF) at the University of Fribourg, SDC promotes locally owned governance reforms in developing countries. The Program provides comparative research, advisory services and capacity development on good governance, including federalism and decentralisation, to strengthen inclusive institutions, democratic resilience, prosperity, conflict prevention and sustainable development.

Biodiversity and Ecosystem Resilience Programme

Switzerland will support North Macedonia in strengthening enabling conditions for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience through a single-phase intervention, with a focus on improving the management and financial sustainability of protected areas, preparing an application for Green Climate Fund, and raising stakeholders’ awareness of relevant climate and environmental issues. It will engage responsible key institutions at all levels, and it will contribute to country’s EU integration process. 

Programme d’appui aux filières agropastorales - Mali

Au Mali, la Suisse accompagne la consolidation des filières lait local et pomme de terre dans les régions de Sikasso, Bougouni et Koutiala. Face aux contraintes persistantes de productivité, de commercialisation et d’accès aux services, le projet renforce les capacités des acteurs et favorise l’investissement privé et la pérennisation des acquis. Capitalisant sur dix ans d’engagement, il vise à accroître durablement les revenus et l’emploi, notamment des femmes et des jeunes, et contribue à la stabilité économique et sociale du sud du Mali, également dans l’intérêt à long terme de la Suisse.

Job Creation and Skills Development

In light of the contextual changes, the final phase of the project strengthens business resilience and competitiveness in Moldova, aligns workforce skills with labour market needs, supports the labour market integration of Ukrainian refugees, and reinforces key economic institutions, while leveraging EU/EFTA opportunities to expand exports, improve market access, attract investment and foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Switzerland contributes to greater resilience.

Contribution to the IOM OPT Common Pipeline Programme

In response to the shelter needs in the Gaza Strip and in view of the approaching winter, Switzerland contributes to the purchase and distribution of shelter material and other essential non-food items, such as blankets, winter clothing, kitchen or hygiene kits. The program is run by the International Organization for Migration IOM under the UN-led humanitarian system and in close coordination with the relevant governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.

SSD, FAO: Adaptive Resilience for Integrated Food Security and Empowerment in South Sudan (ARISE)

Switzerland’s multiyear contribution to FAO will support smallholder farmers, especially crisis and conflict affected women and youth to transition from subsistence food production to resilient market-oriented and sustainable food systems with climate adaptation. The intervention will strengthen livelihoods and climate resilience, increase productivity and income, improve natural resource management and longterm food security and economic recovery in flood and draught affected parts of South Sudan.

Somalia, Togwajaale Hub for Resilient, Inclusive Value Chain and Economic Development (THRIVE)

Effective local governments are essential for inclusive development, yet in Somalia they are constrained by weak institutions, limited revenues, inadequate infrastructure, and poor coordination. Through THRIVE, Switzerland strengthens local governance, public financial management, and citizen participation to improve accountability, service delivery, and local economic development, laying the foundation for resilient and inclusive development.

Contribution au Projet Intégré de Renforcement de la Résilience climatique des Communes vulnérables et Frontalières (PIRRCF)

La Suisse renforce au Bénin la résilience aux changements climatiques des populations et des territoires ruraux frontaliers à travers une contribution au PNUD soutenue par l’Etat béninois. Les acteurs communaux, communautaires et le secteur privé sont renforcés pour adopter/développer une approche intégrée combinant agriculture résiliente, agroforesterie, infrastructures de maitrise d’eau, énergies renouvelables et utilisation de matériaux locaux de construction.

This project supports Latin American countries to implement comprehensive strategies for Integrated Fire Management (IFM) governance. It does so by promoting the incorporation of IFM in institutional frameworks, government mechanisms and policies. It strengthens technical capacities and fosters the exchange of good practices and evidence from the field such as early warning systems and local innovative approaches. This second and last project phase consolidates earlier results and focus on strengthening national institutionalization and regional coordination for sustainability and scale.

Financial contribution to the World Bank Trust Fund Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI)

The Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) helps countries improve how they monitor and evaluate government programmes. It supports better public services and decision-making. GEI works with countries over the long term, starting with an assessment of their needs. It builds skills through training and expert support. Through its global network GEI also helps development partners, partner countries and civil society organisations work together and use evidence to make better decisions.
