Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium (SWSC)

The Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium includes 10 non-governmental organizations and contributes to improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities in least developed countries in West and East Africa and Asia by increasing drinking water, sanitation and hygiene coverage in schools and health care facilities. It also contributes to triggering innovation and knowledge sharing between the Swiss NGOs as well as strengthening the Swiss profile in advocacy and policy.

Humanitarian and early recovery support to the floods in Kosovo

As a response to the severe flooding in 11 municipalities in Kosovo in January 2023, SDC supports the UN inter-agency appeal ‘Flood Response and Early Recovery Plan’ prepared by the UN Kosovo Team. The plan aims to directly target the humanitarian and early recovery needs of approximately 13’000 flood-affected people, including vulnerable groups.

Le Burkina Faso connaît depuis 2015 une dynamique de conflit qui s’intensifie, avec une dégradation continue de la sécurité et de la cohésion sociale. La Suisse agit sur les causes profondes de fragilité et de conflit, afin d’établir un cadre de paix et de stabilité indispensable au développement. Elle renforce l’efficacité dans le secteur paix, soutient les mécanismes endogènes de gestion des conflits et contribue aux capacités de monitoring des droits humains, en faisant appel à l’expertise suisse.

Cholera Response Mozambique 2023

A cholera crisis is spreading across Southern Africa. Malawi is undergoing the wost crisis since years. Numerous cases have also been diagnosed in Mozambique, where the epidemy is developing very fast since January 2023 . This contribution aims at containing the spread of the outbreak through Infection and Prevention Control (IPC) measures as well as medical treatment of people affected by cholera in Mozambique.

Contribution 2023 to IFRC Emergency Appeal Earthquake Türkiye

Multiple earthquakes up to 7.7 magnitude hit southern Türkiye and Syria on 6 February. Both human casualties and material damages are extensive. The IFRC plans to assist 300’000 people through integrated emergency assistance, complemented with Health, WASH and protection components in affected areas in Türkiye. The decision to make this financial contribution was taken by the Humanitarian Aid Operations Cell on 08.02.2023.

Response to Earthquake M7.8 February 6th 2023 in Turkey and Syria

Following a severe Earthquake in the region of Gaziantep of a magnitude of 7.8 which caused tremendous destruction, humanitarian assistance will be provided under the form 1) of the deployment of the Rescue Chain; 2) the sending of a SET; 3) in-kind donations and 4) financial contributions for multilateral organisations or NGOs (in a separate credit proposal). Decisions on optimum use of funds will be taken by the Crisis Cell led by the HA delegate in close coordination with desk and CH representations in the region.

Tanzania is investing heavily in reforming sustainable health financing and leveraging integrated digital solutions to advance Universal Health Coverage and ensure that all Tanzanians have access to any quality health services they need, when and where they need, without financial hardship. Together with other development partners, Switzerland uses this momentum to support the government in establishing a Universal Health Insurance and the Center for Digital Health.

World Food programme (WFP) Contribution 2023 to support WFP’s operations in Ukraine

WFP works in Ukraine to support populations affected by the war. The programmes are designed to restore and stabilise economic activity and food systems, as well as sustain and strengthen institutional services and safety nets to reduce vulnerability in the longer term. They restore, stabilize, sustain and recover by: 1) meeting people’s urgent needs with food and cash 2) emphasising a local approach that supports the economy 3) supporting institutions and safety nets that protect Ukrainians 4) restoring productive assets and capacity.
Agroecology Promotion Programme APP

Switzerland has been one of the front-runners positioning agroecology globally to support food systems transformation, notably following the aftermath of the UN Food Systems Summit in September 2021. Mercy Corps: Strengthening Resilience in Agriculture, Livelihoods and Markets through Local Institutions in Greater Mundri

To sustainably move households out of chronic vulnerability, poverty and food insecurity by facilitating economic recovery and support for smallholder farmers and non-farm microenterprises. The support will consist of market system development (MSD), value chain development, vocational skills development and improved methods of agriculture, such as agro-ecology and conservation. The intervention will focus on women and youth and is highly relevant in a post-conflict context like Mundri (South Sudan).
Albania: Sustainable Rural Development

PROMOST IV - Promoting Market-Oriented Skills Training in the Great Lakes Region

Le manque de perspectives d’emploi est un défi majeur au Burundi et en RDC. Le programme PROMOST a contribué depuis 2012 à améliorer l’employabilité des jeunes (filles et garçons) issus des milieux défavorisés en favorisant leur accès à une formation professionnelle de qualité. Ce projet a jusqu’ici connu trois phases dont la dernière se termine le 31.01.2023 au Burundi et en RDC-Sud Kivu et le 31.12.2023 après prolongation au Rwanda. Tout en capitalisant sur les acquis des phases précédentes, cette phase de sortie mettra un accent sur l’institutionnalisation des dispositifs formation, la durabilité des systèmes d’EFTP et la qualité des emplois et revenus créés au Burundi et en RDC.
