Somalia is slowly emerging from one of the most complex and protracted conflicts. Over the past decade, peacebuilding and state-building processes, while navigating conflict, climate crisis and political fragility, maintained an incrementally positive trajectory. In investing in civil society engagement and building of local institutions and capacities all over Somalia, Switzerland is contributing in the establishment and strengthening of sustainable, community-driven, inclusive institutions necessary to deliver services and sustainable peace.

This contribution is a contribution to the Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan established in June 2023 in the aftermath of the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023. UNHCR’s emergency response focuses on supporting the Government of Chad to ensure access to territory to the people fleeing violence in Sudan, on providing protection and multisectorial assistance and on relocating refugees to existing camps and creating new camps at the request of the Government.

The democracy of Bangladesh will be strengthened through a fair, free, inclusive and non-violent election cycle, to which this project contributes by supporting the Bangladesh Election Commission, civil society organisations, media and marginalised communities including women and/or youth groups. The project builds on Switzerland’s democratic principles to foster good governance, at all levels, within electoral processes.

This contribution aims at supporting the Government of South Sudan’s efforts to respond to the influx of refugees and South Sudanese returnees in the aftermath of the outbreak of conflict on the 15.4.2023 in Sudan. UNHCR’s emergency response focuses on the identification and reception of the most vulnerable new arrivals at prioritized points of entry, with the provision of life-saving support and specialized protection services.

Northeast Nigeria continues to be plagued by a protracted humanitarian crisis since 2009, with 8.3 million people in need of humanitarian aid and more than two million internally displaced people (IDPs) in 2023. By supporting the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), Switzerland supports flexible fund allocations to respond to pressing humanitarian needs of conflict-affected people. It further contributes to its Good Humanitarian Donorship and Grand Bargain commitments, including on localization of aid.

L’élevage, adapté à l’écosystème du Sahel, est crucial pour le développement des régions de Mopti, Tombouctou et Gao et ce en dépit des effets du changement climatique, de l’insécurité, de la faible productivité et de l’insuffisance des infrastructures. De par son expérience, la Suisse va renforcer la résilience de 85’000 éleveurs et pasteurs, concourir à l’apaisement des conflits et à la relance économique, et offrir des opportunités aux jeunes et aux femmes dans les filières bétail-viande et lait.

Supporting displacement-affected communities to access essential services and achieve durable solutions in Diyala and Ninewa governorates, Iraq

Although the Islamic State (IS) was defeated territorially more than five years ago, 2.5 million people in Iraq are in need of humanitarian assistance. This project aims to address key protection issues, such as lack of access to civil legal documents, in displacement-affected communities in Diyala and Ninewa governorates. The goal is to achieve durable solutions through access to essential services and handover to national agencies through capacity building and advocacy.

Since 2019 the Resident Coordinator (RC) System has contributed to a better coordinated, more effective and efficient UN Development System (UNDS) that delivers on the SDGs. As an indispensable pillar of the UNDS Reform, the RC System relies on predictable and sustainable funding. The renewed Swiss contribution strengthens the UN’s capacity to complete the transition phase towards a fully functioning reinvigorated UNDS.

Ce projet vise à renforcer les capacités de six communes d’Haïti afin qu'elles puissent fournir des services d'eau potable et d'assainissement résilients aus risques et catastrophes à la population. En vue de la fin de la coopération bilatérale de la Suisse en Haïti, la phase II consolide et met à l'échelle les acquis de la première phase et intègre des approches du projet direct humanitaire « Réduction des Risques de Catastrophes Naturelles ».
Women’s Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgia

To engage more women in Georgia’s political and public life, the WILD project will (i) increase the political literacy and skills of 1’150 locally active women, their organizations and public servants; (ii) sensitize 60 journalists, and 150 data producers and users on gender-related reporting; (iii) contribute to development and adoption of gender-responsive laws and policies, benefitting some 38’350 public servants. The project will engage with men to foster behavioural change.
Natural Resource Governance Institute – advancing good governance in resourcerich countries

The commodities sector plays a crucial role in many developing countries, particularly in terms of domestic resource mobilisation, but also because of the manifold challenges attached to the sector such as illicit financial flows, human rights abuses and environmental degradation. Through its partnership with NRGI, Switzerland contributes to improving the governance of mineral resources in resource-rich developing countries, also in light of the ongoing global energy transition.
