Flood Resilience in the Lower Mekong

Lao PDR is vulnerable to hydro-meteorological events, exacerbated by climate change and unplanned urbanization. In partnership with the Lao government, Switzerland is committed to strengthening early warning systems, preparedness and response capacities of authorities and vulnerable communities by leveraging low-cost technologies and successful experience of the Cambodian 1294 Early Warning System.

UNHCR is one of Switzerland’s key multilateral partners due to its unique mandate by the General Assembly of United Nations to provide protection and assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, refugee returnees, and stateless persons. The strategic direction 2022-26 concretise the overall mandate of UNHCR for the upcoming years. Contributing to these directions allows Switzerland to achieve in particular the human development goal defined in the Dispatch to Parliament on International Cooperation for 2021-24.

Contributions to OCHA Field Operations in 2023

The goal of OCHA is to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. It contributes to principled and effective humanitarian response in sudden-onset disasters and protracted crises through its five core functions: Coordination, Advocacy and communication, Humanitarian financing, Policy and Information management. In its central coordinating role OCHA works in partner-ship with local, national and international actors.

Program Contribution to Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse 2023-2024

Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse (MSF-CH) delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics & disasters and to communities excluded from health services. It focuses on medical and surgical assistance as well as on strengthening of local healthcare. MSF-CH cares for mothers & children, provides sexual, reproductive & paediatric care, responds to epidemics such as Covid-19, and treats non-communicable diseases & mental health conditions. It brings to attention neglected crises and advocates for improved medical treatments and protocols.

Appui au secteur des médias dans la région des Grands Lacs

Les médias sont des acteurs clés dans le contexte sociopolitique complexe de la région des Grands Lacs pour la consolidation de la paix. En soutenant les trois pays dans ce secteur, la Suisse souhaite contribuer à la promotion d’une pluralité démocratique fondée sur des réformes inclusives favorables à l’exercice des médias libres et indépendants, à l’accès aux informations de qualité aux populations, tenant compte des enjeux sociopolitiques importants auxquels ils font face.

Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG)

Switzerland with its longstanding engagement and experience in land and natural resource management will support a last phase of the “Mekong Region Land Governance” project. This Swiss flagship project will continue to support Alliances of Reform-Actors, including policy-makers and civil society, to improve policy-making environment and implementation toward improved land tenure security for vulnerable family farmers in the Mekong region, particularly in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Contribution to UNRWA’s Emergency Interventions in Lebanon 2023

Due to the several crises that have affected Lebanon over the past three years, the needs of Palestinian refugees have become more urgent. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is crucial to respond to the most basic needs of Palestine refugees as well as to maintain regional stability. Thus, in response to UNRWA's Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan Emergency Appeal 2023, Switzerland designates its support to the urgent needs of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, including the provision of cash assistance.

The World Wide Fund for Nature Switzerland is a Swiss NGO funded by foundations, private donors and its 300’000 members. As a fully autonomous organization it is part of WWF’s global network, which is present in almost 100 countries. Through and jointly with local WWF offices, it works towards sustaining natural resources such as freshwater, forests and coastlines whilst improving the livelihoods of disadvantaged and marginalized communities depending on functioning ecosystem services.

Helvetas is an independent Swiss NGO supported by over 100’000 members and private donors. It is active in 32 countries with over 250 projects and about 1’600 staff addressing multiple dimensions of poverty and improving the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in the South and in Eastern Europe. Helvetas is an important actor of the Swiss International Cooperation promoting international solidarity and raising awareness about sustainable development, including in the tourism.

La Fédération Genevoise de Coopération (FGC) est une association faitière créée en 1966 qui regroupe 59 ONG de développement. Elle apporte un soutien technique et financier aux activités de ses organisations membres et leurs projets dans les pays du Sud, en faveur des populations les plus démunies. Partenaire des collectivités publiques genevoises, elle est garante de qualité et d’une bonne gestion, et elle sensibilise la population genevoise aux enjeux globaux des 17 Objectifs Durables du Développement de l’Agenda 2030.

The Pestalozzi Children's Foundation (PCF) is a globaly active Swiss non-profit organization. PCF enhances inclusive and equitable quality education with a focus on the most vulnerable children. Through capacity development and close cooperation with local NGOs and other partners, PCF supports the strengthening of civil society as a way to effectivively promote human rights, gender equality and sustainable development. Its support to international cooperation in education draws from Swiss expertise in the field of education.
