MapAction Core Contribution 2023-2025

The aim of this credit proposal is to improve digital preparedness in the field of GIS/mapping and to become faster and more efficient in emergency response situations through cooperation with MapAction. With the support of SDC, the partner will be able to immediately provide up-to-date and relevant geospatial data and cartographic products in the event of a disaster or crisis.

Additional allocation to WFP Country Strategic Plans - Sudan, Chad, Egypt

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually in 28 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds indistinctively Country Strategic Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.

Additional Allocation in 2023 to International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Operations in South Sudan

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. The conflict in Sudan since mid of April 2023, also caused major cross-border displacements to neighbouring countries. South Sudan is one of the most affected countries. The ICRC has adapted and reinforced its capacity to respond to increased humanitarian needs along the border with Sudan.

2023 Additional Allocation to UNHCR’s Operations in Afghanistan

29.2 mio Afghans - over 70 % of the country’s population - are in need of humanitarian assistance. 15.3 mio Afghans are acutely food insecure. The United Nations Refugee Agency is active in all provinces in Afghanistan and is helping to ease the immediate needs of communities, returnees, Internally Displaced Persons, Afghan refugees returning from neighbouring countries on food, non-food items / shelter, health and water / sanitation / hygiene equipment. 


Flood Resilience in the Lower Mekong

Lao PDR is vulnerable to hydro-meteorological events, exacerbated by climate change and unplanned urbanization. In partnership with the Lao government, Switzerland is committed to strengthening early warning systems, preparedness and response capacities of authorities and vulnerable communities by leveraging low-cost technologies and successful experience of the Cambodian 1294 Early Warning System.

Contributing to these directions allows Switzerland to achieve in particular the human development goal defined in the Dispatch to Parliament on International Cooperation for 2021-24.

The goal of OCHA is to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. It contributes to principled and effective humanitarian response in sudden-onset disasters and protracted crises through its five core functions: Coordination, Advocacy and communication, Humanitarian financing, Policy and Information management. In its central coordinating role OCHA works in partner-ship with local, national and international actors.

Program Contribution to Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse 2023-2024

Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse (MSF-CH) delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics & disasters and to communities excluded from health services. It focuses on medical and surgical assistance as well as on strengthening of local healthcare. MSF-CH cares for mothers & children, provides sexual, reproductive & paediatric care, responds to epidemics such as Covid-19, and treats non-communicable diseases & mental health conditions. It brings to attention neglected crises and advocates for improved medical treatments and protocols.


Appui au secteur des médias dans la région des Grands Lacs

Les médias sont des acteurs clés dans le contexte sociopolitique complexe de la région des Grands Lacs pour la consolidation de la paix. En soutenant les trois pays dans ce secteur, la Suisse souhaite contribuer à la promotion d’une pluralité démocratique fondée sur des réformes inclusives favorables à l’exercice des médias libres et indépendants, à l’accès aux informations de qualité aux populations, tenant compte des enjeux sociopolitiques importants auxquels ils font face.

Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG)

Switzerland with its longstanding engagement and experience in land and natural resource management will support a last phase of the “Mekong Region Land Governance” project. This Swiss flagship project will continue to support Alliances of Reform-Actors, including policy-makers and civil society, to improve policy-making environment and implementation toward improved land tenure security for vulnerable family farmers in the Mekong region, particularly in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.
