Facilitating access to antibiotics for everyone (GARDP)

Antibiotic-resistant infections are among the top 10 global health threats worldwide and particularly disproportionately burden low-resource settings. The Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership mission is to accelerate the development and facilitate access to and sustainable use of effective antibiotics for everyone. SDC support will build a sustainable ecosystem to ensure equitable access to quality antibiotics in low- and middle-income countries.
Bashki të Forta (BtF) - Strong Municipalities

The project aims at strengthening capacities of all 61 albanian municipalities (executive and councils) to assume their functions. Citizens will benefit from improved services based on standards and reliable data. A national performance based system of grants will contribute to improve municipal governance and will incentivise municipalities to perform better.

On average, about 2,000 migrants stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for several months at a time on their way to the EU. Many of them have health problems and are in need of medical care. However, 95% of migrants are not entitled to get health care from BiH health providers and depend on donor-funded services. Switzerland supports the efforts of BiH authorities to integrate the health care provision for migrants adapted to their needs into the national health care system and thus to improve access to health for all.

Moins de la moitié des nigériens ont accès à l’eau potable et moins d’un tiers utilisent des services d’assainissement et d’hygiène de base. Les entités décentralisées, en charge de fournir le service public de l’eau et de l’assainissement, manquent de ressources. À travers PHRASEA, la Suisse les appuie à assumer leurs fonctions, ainsi améliorant les conditions de vie de la population. Cette troisième phase va consolider l’approche décentralisée et ancrer les bonnes pratiques au niveau national à travers le fonds hydraulique.

In expectation of the winter in Ukraine, the Swiss Red Cross in collaboration with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society improve living conditions in collective centers and host community facilities, and provide durable accommodation solutions for Internal Displaced Persons through winterization measures in Ternopil and Ivano Frankivsk Oblast.
Groundwater Management, Use and Protection Programme (GWP)

Despite its vital importance for people, economy and environment, groundwater (GW) in North Macedonia is increasingly under pressure from pollution and unsustainable use in a changing climate. With Swiss expertise and support, the GWP will establish the basis for a long-term transformation of the GW management by building stakeholders’ capacities, securing the necessary collaboration mechanism, improving legislative and planning framework.

Access to safe water and sanitation affordable for all by 2030 according to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 is substantially off track. The so-called SDG 6 Acceleration Framework adopted in 2020 by the UN, calls for fast results through increased efforts at all levels and by all relevant actors. Solidarit’Eau Suisse helps in mobilizing support from Swiss municipalities and other water-related public actors to implement Swiss projects in the water sector of the Global South.

Improving food security for conflict-affected populations in Northeast Nigeria

Over 14 million people are currently food insecure in Nigeria, with the conflict-affected northeast of the country being most severely impacted, amidst insecurity, limited humanitarian access, recurring population movements and soaring food prices. With this contribution, the SDC supports Action Contre la Faim to provide emergency assistance to the most food insecure populations, while also contributing to the restoration of livelihoods to prevent or mitigate future shocks, in line with the nexus approach.

Enhancing Agro-Pastoral Food Security, Livelihoods and Protection

The project will improve food and nutrition security and strengthen livelihoods through poultry production, the provision of animal health services, and the promotion of draft animal technologies and natural resource management. VSF Suisse, due to the level of acceptance and trust it has built with pastoral communities, will reinforce and strengthen community-based child protection services, provide psychosocial support for children and caregivers and support community-based peace committees to mitigate conflicts.
Effective management and prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases

Kyrgyzstan faces an increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases and there are significant gaps in the health system to manage them. The Primary Health Care system should deliver equitable care and prevent hospitalizations with non-communicable diseases’ complications. The project contributes to Improve health and quality of life of the rural population through replicating the model of primary health care strengthening and promoting healthy behaviour among people in southern regions and two big cities.

Switzerland plays a critical role in moving the agenda for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and fighting all forms of malnutrition forward in low- and middle-income countries and at global level. NCDs constitute a major global health challenge with critical economic consequences. Unhealthy diets and physical inactivity are the main causes of obesity and NCDs. Switzerland aims at strengthening individual and institutional capacity and enabling environments for legal and regulatory measures to promote healthy diets and physical activity.
