
In order to promote the development of this important profession for the health care system in BiH, two events were organized – in Sarajevo in cooperation with the Clinical Centre of the University of Sarajevo and in Banja Luka in cooperation with the Medical Faculty of the University of Banja Luka.
Swiss Ambassador to BiH, Heinrich Maurer, General Manager of the Clinical Centre, Sebija Izetbegovic, Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Snjezana Bodnaruk, Chief Nurse of the Clinical Centre, Ernela Eminovic, and ProSes Project Manager, Ines-Katic – Vrdoljak, addressed gathered nurses and medical workers in Sarajevo. At the same time, the audience in Banja Luka was addressed by the representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska, Ministry of Education of Republika Srpska, and the Swiss Embassy in BiH.
The Swiss Ambassador Heinrich Maurer mentioned that Switzerland is supporting nurses in BiH through the “Strengthening Nursing in BiH Project“ encompassing a Swiss grant of 8 million KM.
Professional and responsible nursing is of a great significance for every health institution. A need for continuous education of nurses to provide a high quality care to the patients was emphasized on both events. On this occasion, the visit to the clinical skills lab of the health care studies in Banja Luka, equipped with the ProSes Project support, was also organized.
Every year nurses throughout the world mark May, 12th in a memory of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of the modern nursing. Florence Nightingale initiated enrolment of professionally educated women in health care of the patients and opened the first school for nurses in 1860 in London.
