Which documents should I submit with a national visa application?

The Swiss representation requires three copies of the three-page form, two photos and two sets of all supporting documentation from the list above to be able to forward your application to the cantonal migration authority in Switzerland. Please mail your application.

The application will be forwarded to the competent cantonal authorities in Switzerland for a decision. The Embassy of Switzerland can only issue the visa after approval by the competent authorities. The total processing time is approximately 8-12 weeks. This time is an approximation only and may vary considerably depending on the canton responsible and the elements of the application.

The cantonal migration authority responsible for your place of residence in Switzerland will approve your visa authorization. The approval process can vary. To allow for sufficient processing time, please submit your file by mail at least three months before your planned entry date into Switzerland.
Authorization for a Swiss representation to issue a national visa for a stay of more than 90 days (work, study, family reunion): 8 to 15 weeks
Once authorized by the cantonal authority (including work permits applied for by employers in Switzerland): One to three business days
If your employer has applied for your work permit in Switzerland and it has been granted, you must contact the Swiss representation abroad responsible for your province in order to receive the entry visa on your passport.
